If you baby is younger than 1

I am actually super worried he hasn’t had even a sniffle. I’m stressed about his immune system when the world opens back up

I’m contemplating taking him on a plane this summer. He obviously won’t be able to be masked, but if everyone else is and vaccination rates are high, I’m feeling safe about it. Would others ?

This is going to be a multiple year cat and mouse game with vaccines and variants. You need to decide if you're willing to not have a life for years to avoid catching what amounts to a nasty cold in most people.

No well-visits?

There are plenty of perfectly safe things you can do away from your house with a baby. Hiking, for instance, taking your kid to feed the ducks, driving around to see Christmas lights. I'd really be worried about friends who hadn't left their house in 13 months

For quick trips yes....full shop no. But I take my masked 3 year old.

OP here, there is clearly a range. We have been pretty strict since her birth. The the doctor, walks in the neighborhood and last summer lots distant visits in our backyard or my sister's patio. Then a long quiet winter.

Now that she is older we have started taking her to the park. She loves it and is fascinated and delighted by the world: cars, other people, particularly kids. Its also a bit of pain to always line up someone to watch the baby (DH, his parents) when I have to go to the grocery store.

Yeah, what? Please tell me this child has been kept up to date on shots and well visits.

Mine's younger, but also hoping to travel in the fall. I think at this point, however, a wait and see approach makes most sense.

I think PP is talking about a nonexistent child and how she would parent said nonexistent child better than everyone else.

Are you breastfeeding? Wouldn't your child get antibodies that way?

For a young infant, it's fine to keep them to your house only. But as kids get older they need to experience things. You are seriously doing your kid a disservice by keeping them so isolated.

Your child can’t get antibodies for covid unless the mother has covid and possibly from the vaccine.

We moved to a beach town right after DD was born so we are on the beach every day and several times a day.

Aside from the pediatrician - she’s been no where else.

I’ve taken my 11 month old grocery shopping, on Target runs, and to a few indoor restaurants (and tons of patio dining when the weather cooperates- we are in Minnesota).

Ummmmm what about the like 6-8 doctors appointments required in the first year? I feel like you’re definitely exaggerating. My 8 month old hasn’t been inside any stores bc neither have we (thank you to our Whole Foods shoppers and delivery/curbside) but he’s been inside for necessary doctor’s visits! And we go on walks and hikes and things too.

For enough money you can have a pediatrician come to your home. They will do all the typical well baby appointments in the comfort of your home.
