It was stupid to have moved that area out of Annandale in the first place. The School Board probably wouldn’t have done it if they’d known it was going to accelerate UMC flight out of Annandale and that Fairfax City would turn around a few years later and demand that FCPS pull county kids out of Fairfax (most ended up at Woodson). Just another example of how the idiotic Democrats on the School Board talk a lot about equity and then make changes that gut once-good schools. |
I also live in Fairfax City. Everything that comes on the market right now, sells within a matter of days. It’s crazy. My neighbor and I keep joking about what we could sell our houses for based on current sales. |

We moved from Fairfax County to Fairfax City. Love FFX City. The city gov't is WORLDS more transparent and responsive than the county. Lots of down to earth people, many of whom have lived here for generations.
I know people who are very happy with both Providence Elem and Daniel's Run. St. Leo is also very popular if you want parochial. Lots of hometown pride in Fairfax High School. The City government, which owns the schools within the city, wasted no time and no breath in changing the high school mascot from the Rebels to the Lions. Not a lot of handwringing like FCPS. |
| Try Kings Park West. Right next to Mantua and good built houses, some of them are completely done. Same schools. |
Not exactly right next to Mantua although not too too far away but NOT the same schools. I believe kings park west is Robinson or maybe lake Braddock HS. Prices are lower there and the lots are smaller. Winterset and Pine Ridge are the only two sfh neighborhoods (other than Manyua) that go to Mantua Elementary. As others have said Wakefield forest/chapel across little river turnpike have frost middle and Woodson HS in common and Wakefield Forest elementary is good. |
Backs to one of the busiest roads in that area. |
I grew up in kings park west. Wonderful place to grow up...walked to all k-12 school grades, plus the pool. From what I know, it’s still a great hood. A much better location vs Mantua IMO and the homes appear to be much more affordable. I know someone who just purchased a renovated hone there for $650k. |
Much better location in terms of? |
I almost bought in Kings Park West in 2013. It was nice, but still a lot of run down looking houses and even some houses that looked like they were George Mason Rentals. Ended up buying on Mason Neck instead. Very happy with my decision. |
I live in Kings Park West. It's solidly a Robinson feeder but depending on where you live about half of the neighborhood has the right to pupil place to Woodson for AP. Our lot is .35 of an acre and backs to woods. We do have a private driveway to maintain, but the privacy is worth the headache, IMO. Laurel Ridge is the main feeder but some kids go to Oakview (~30 percent of those kids are zone for woodson). Robinson is under capacity. I know they moved some woodson neighborhoods to Robinson recently to relieve crowding that occurred when fairfax moved all of its FCPS feeding schools out of Fairfax high. I could see some neighborhoods south of braddock also getting moved since those kids basically drive BY Robinson (Roberts&Braddock) to go to Woodson. I actually live closer to Woodson and we can walk to Robinson. |
We also live in Kings Park West. Not FFX City, but Fairfax Co. We love it. We're in walking distance to OVES and Robinson and have really loved the community. |
Another Kings Park West family here. It was one of the last affordable options. Homes were 150K less than identical homes feeding into Woodson when we searched (literally houses like on the other side of braddock road that were in worse condition, had car ports instead of garage, unfinished basements, etc). We were thrilled to buy a place in KPW. We bought our colonial for 575K five years ago. The model is selling for 750K at a min. now, which is crazy. A similar place feeding to woodson would probably run between 750-850K, fwiw. It's a great neighborhood with a lot of people who have pride in their homes with NO HOA. Big selling point to me. I had a house I loved in fairfax city but we lost it in a bidding war. I am a big fan of fairfax city. My kids do summer camp there (it is SO CHEAP) precovid. |
