High Praise for ACPS from Alexandria PTAs

And how they appear to be approaching the entire problem from the angle of "This is why we can't make it work" instead of "Let's find a way to get our youngest and most vulnerable students back into the classroom." Just lots and lots of hand-wringing and self-praise.

Bingo!

PTAC has someone who was BANNED from their kid's school in their leadership. And signing op-eds & advocating for ACPS. Sounds about right.

I could be wrong, but I believe that person's clearance as a volunteer was taken away because of an incident in which this person praised their son on social media for physically retailiating against another child for saying something negative...about the parent.

I could be wrong, but that won’t stop my from making a highly incendiary accusation.

Yeah, OK, except 1) no one was actually named and 2) another poster litterally confirmed it almost immediately, as I suspected someone would.

Anonymous wrote:I just want to stress that my issue with the letter is not the appreciation of teachers. When my son was in 5th, his teachers really didn't try at all with virtual and essentially disappeared, but since he entered GW, his teachers really have made virtual the best he can be - so I am appreciative of them, and I am appreciative of Principal Mazur. I think it is ok to thank those efforts.

That being said, to suggest that the ACPS administration has handled this well is just an enormous slap in the face to parents of disabled students, who have been horribly mistreated and essentially abandoned by ACPS. The authors really should have thought long and hard about this group before writing this the way that they did.

Yes to all of this. The MS and HS teachers have overwhelmingly been wonderful. Decicated, understanding, creative, and kind. So appreciative of them.

But this letter, and the administration's decisions, are indeed an enormous slap in the face to parents of disabled students and our most vulnerable populations.

I suspect this letter was written by some ACPS consultant, or Superintendent Hutchings himself. It's so cringe.
Knowing some of the people who signed it, I actually believe they—being some of the most pretentious humans I’ve encountered—would write this.
ass

Good point!

Why weren't the other PTAC members consulted?

Busybody is certainly one word to use. One of them showed up at our ES PTA meeting (just to be clear her kids, don't go to our school). It was weird and quickly became apparent it was at the behest of our school's resident (aggressive and mean) busybody. Then she tried to play a game of gotcha with the APD officer who was there to present. She had no idea what she was talking about & got quickly corrected with the facts by one of the parents from our school. I was embarrassed for her. And then her name popped up on this and I though...of course.

I agree that the teachers should be praised for doing the heavy lifting of Virtual Plus +++++ but pretending that ACPS is doing a great job is just...wrong and insulting to all the parents & kids who are struggling or who have given up entirely.

PTAC has stayed quiet on so many issues around the poor education ACPS is providing, why jump in with this message? We are almost a year in so why now? And why not actually demand a quality education in normal times?

And what should a group of busybodies be called? A bully of busybodies? A flock? A hive?

Hmmmm...I'm not sure how they are in leadership. I have no idea how they are elected. It's been the same small friend group from across the city for years.

At least one has political ambitions in Alexandria. Considering their connections (think Seminary Rd mess), it will happen.

I was at a large party in Rosemont (pre-Covid) where several of them were in attendance and a few were clearly intoxicated. The stuff I overheard was, literally, insane.

I could be wrong, PP, but I heard you eat babies. it was confirmed by anonymous sources on another popular website.

Either post details or stop with anonymous hearsay.

I would venture a guess that some of the odd/defensive posts here indicate this thread has found its way to members of that friend group.

You’d be wrong. I’m not saying for sure it’s not true, but I have a healthy suspicion of anonymous rumors. Evidence, or it didn’t happen

I saw screenshots of the post. They were widely shared throughout the neighborhood. It is exactly as PP describes.
