How can FCPS still be rated one of the “best” in the country?

Yes because we all know that Red states have highly rated schools. Nice try troll.

No, I think the pp is right. Liberals destroy stuff to make it equal. Blue areas/states have bad schools too. Blue areas also have the highest crime rates.

Exactly, I wish they would move to those red states.

And we wish you all would stay in your highly taxed, poorly run blue states instead of moving to red states, flipping them blue, and then ruining them.

I think schools are focused on social services for the disadvantaged and and mindfulness is why they are going downhill

In other parts of the country, school districts are much smaller (e.g., NY, NJ, MA). So, you could have a district that would effectively be just Madison & Oakton pyramids. Or Mclean. etc.

Schools that have that (e.g., Scarsdale NY) are much better numbers overall.

But in Fairfax County, we also have places like Annandale, Hybla Valley, Falls Church, etc that pull us down. The fact though, is you can get the similar quality of educations at any county school speaks to the advantage of the larger district.

Having watched my DD go through 13 years for FCPS (K-12), graduating in 2020, I have zero complaints.

FCPS was never the best large school system.

And it's not a county wide best and it never was bc that's not how schools are ranked as most of the north east is not on the county system. It's school by school. And FCPS gets the accolades bc so many of their schools rank high

Besides TJ, name another FCPS school that has ranked in the top 100 in any national ranking?

The good news is Covid has exposed FCPS for the incredible disaster that it is. Hopefully, competent people can be elected and start to turn things around - not guaranteed though.

Absolutely this. The people who say FCPS is good in comparison to other school districts clearly didn’t attend FCPS themselves. While the high schools are still very good/excellent, the elementary and middle school education is a joke. I place the blame squarely on the SB, which over the past decades has become ever more focused on social issues and less interested in simply providing the best education possible, for ALL students. And that includes spelling and grammar instruction and textbooks for all subjects. Somewhere along the way, the SB has seriously lost its way. Too bad more residents didn’t listen before the last election, but hopefully they won’t repeat their mistake next time around.

Just goes to show how awful US public schools are, TBH.

MoCo is #22 and it’s an absolute shitshow.

Try again, buttercup. This time, let’s look beyond just high schools.
