Well, there was the black face thing. He's pretty ineffective in general and not charistmatic at all. And he has totally botched Covid IMO. He should have been more restrictive on people's activities and prioritized getting kids back in school. He's also totally botched the vaccine rollout.

Why would any of those things be a reason to vote republican? Republican governors have done all those things too.

OP, you seem not so bright. Northam is moderate - if you dont want anyone to the left of him, then maybe you’re a Republican.

I’m not a Northam fan, but OP is clearly someone who has little knowledge of Northam or his policies and probably parroting something s/he heard. I would let this thread die.

OP here. I guess I did not express myself well. I want someone similar to Northam in moderateness (is that a word?) but a more effective leader/state executive.

Please give specific examples of actions northam took or failed to take that exhibit his failure of effective leadership. This is such a fing bs complaint I’d like support.

He hasn't be restrictive enough for Covid. Gyms and indoor dining? Really? Also the vaccine rollout has been a joke.

Also the general assembly is very far right. If we don’t have a democratic governor, we will get all sorts of awful laws passed. Say what you want about Northam but he saved us a lot of trouble with his veto power.

As your question, I think we could get a normal Republican. But maybe not. It’s hard to say because it seems like a lot of republicans are fed up with maga stuff right now, and many in northern Virginia have never been Maga types

There aren't any anymore. Either they're maga types, or they tolerated maga types out of expediency or fear, or they're former Republicans.

This. I am a lifelong Virginian. The last one I can think of was Virgil Goode and even he's gone nutty. They're gone. It's so sad.

All the grassroots energy in the democrat party is on the left. Moderate dems are merely tolerated for their (necessary) votes.

Republicans can be all over the place. It’s essentially impossible to be too moderate (or conservative, for that matter) to still call yourself a republican.

But it is definitely possible to be too moderate to be a dem. The dems have better discipline of message and are far more successful in enforcing party orthodoxy, and that is driven from the left side of the party.

JFK would be run out of the current democrat party. His views are totally irreconcilable with them.

Just stop. We just elected a moderate to POTUS. GMAFB.

If you swap "democrat" for "Republican," and "Republican" for "Democrats/Democratic", and "JFK" for "Ronald Reagan," that your post is 100% correct.

But, you will not find them on this forum.

you mean anti leftist but unable to articulate what they actually mean?

The Republican party has committed suicide. There are tattered remains that consist of insane Trumpers and Tea Party types.

Just vote for whomever is the Dem candidate. Policy wise, they're not far from what the Rs used to be.

Bob for Jobs endorsed Cox today, FWIW.

OP, you need to understand that at this juncture, GOP = crazies.

The party of John McCain and Ronald Reagan is gone.

If you don't see that Biden's policies of the last week are not moderate than yes, your vision is skewed.

+1

Northam has been terrible at running the government. Isn't that what governors are supposed to do?

Not only was the COVID roll out a mess, but the unemployed have had an awful time getting their benefits. Lots of horror stories out there of people who are totally qualified for it and cannot get their checks because of terrible bureaucracy.

I am a Democrat who feels I’ve gotten my moneys worth out of north on with legalizing marijuana and ending the death penalty. That said I am going to be a single issue voter in the governors election in the fall. If any candidate says they will mandate full-time in person school I will vote for that person.
