| I have a younger student who is doing DL from day care with her sibling. She gets to play outside for hours every day and help out with the younger kids. Unless she can go back full time I won’t send her. I will still need full time child care and she is happy and in a routine. |
Did you even read up thread? The poster was saying how dumb someone was for keeping their kid home. This poster was pointing out how dumb people are for sending kids. Thanks for your constant examples from wurope in a thread that didn’t ask for it. |
Let me click on a thread titled “For Those of you who prefer distance learning” and tell them how they are all wrong. If you don’t prefer distance learning keep scrolling. It’s a families choice. No one needs to come on here and vomit back every reason someone is wrong about schools. It’s on every single thread. |

Exactly, and since there’s limited availability of in-person learning, people who think Covid is like the flu should be grateful to those of us who prefer DL, for whatever reason. More pathogens for your kids.

| I don’t think open schools are going to cause a huge spike in cases but do believe that every additional opening causes an incremental increase. I’m afraid that schools might be the straw that breaks the camels back. We are about to pass 300 people in the city hospitalized for the first time since May. Hospitals are aroundt 88% full and would be more if elective procedures were not starting to be postponed again. I support opening schools but we are in a growing surge. I’d be more supportive of opening schools if we were not in a case upswing and/or if the city paired opening schools with some other mitigation to reduce risks. |

We were offered a spot for PreK 4 yesterday and declined because we were worried about the consistency and worrying about a positive test and classes quarantining etc. Also it was only offered from 8:30-12 which maybe we could make work but not when I go back into work as a teacher.
Also similar to an above poster my son is in an inhome daycare with his sister and another sibling pair where he has freedom and an awesome woman that has been taking care of him since he was 3 months old. Also it’s a full Spanish immersion environment. Maybe will just keep him there the rest of the year. Only negative is paying for daycare. |
It's not just Europe. And I think you are the one who didn't read. The PP didn't say someone was dumb for keeping their kid home a couple more months, she was responding to someone who said they would keep their kid home until the kid was vaccinated, regardless of time frame, because she feared for her kid's safety and long-term health. It's absolutely fair to point out how the risks of Covid for a kid compare to the risks of driving, or other everyday risks we take without thinking much. I can totally understand why someone, at this point, would choose to keep their kids home a little bit longer. But until all kids are vaccinated? That is an extreme and irrational position, unless the child has a health condition that puts them at high risk. |
I don't think anyone here thinks Covid is like the flu. But for kids, it is less dangerous. That's a fact. Science is real! |

typical white privilege answers here.
I have a nanny so I'm good. I have the luxury of working from home while my kids are at the house. Black lives matter too. |
| I don’t prefer distance learning but I’m a teacher and DD works outside the home so my pk3 child is fine in daycare for now. We declined hybrid because without before care or aftercare we can’t make it work with our schedules. Honestly it’s more of a logistics thing than being worried about the virus for me but DH is the opposite in that he doesn’t want to increase our exposure. We do not participate in DL but we do 1:1 check in with her teacher and submit assignments. As soon as school is back full time (hopefully the fall?) I look forward to sending DD but right now it’s not worth it to us. |
Yeah, I’m black, and I don’t want my child to die of Covid. So she’s staying home. Because Covid affects our community disproportionately. Also, I believe I read somewhere that schools where the majority of parents wanted to return were majority White hi SES. Cue for: That’s because white patents care about education, Black parents don’t. |
Sorry, bit of a tangent, but I thought it was interesting that the reason POC said they wanted to keep their kids home was that they don't trust the schools to do the right things. In other words, they didn't say they didn't believe school could be done safely, but they don't t DCPS to pull it off. I feel like this wasn't emphasized enough. |
*don't trust DCPS to pull it off. |
POC here. When did we meet and vote? I can't believe I missed the meeting!!! |
