If you chose hybrid for APS, are you comfortable with kids going back next month?

For my ES child yes. For my MS child, no.

Must be a troll. How could someone in the healthcare industry be so uncaring and tone deaf?

Maybe they’re weary of no one showing concern for them beyond pure lip service.

No, I signed up for hybrid because I thought metrics have to be met!!! Congrats Duran you just beat Patrick Murphy and won the worst superintendent award.

I have been pretty pro-hybrid this whole time and have selected for my 1st grader during both rounds of decision making.

However, the key part for me the second time around was the health metrics showing that community spread was somewhat under control.

It's is absolutely unsafe to send them now. If the teachers were all vaccinated, I'd feel a bit better. But hospitals are full, or filling up, now is not the time to open up more.

I hope things changes by March, but I'm unsure it will.

I changed from hybrid to virtual once it was clear we weren’t going back until November at least. I believed the epidemiologists who warned about the fall/winter surge and knew that APS wasn’t going to do anything beyond what they’d already planned to mitigate, so we switched our kids to virtual. Indoor lunch and no filters and teachers not yet being vaccinated are deal breakers for me. I know others have different calculations, but they’re the ones who visited Disney this fall, and had a NYE party including a sleepover for the kids, and think they didn’t get sick yet so everyone is making a big deal out of nothing. I don’t want my kids to be around their kids, not even with masks.

Has there been any insight on how schools are spending the extra cares money and regular budgets since they are only providing half services with building closed and no transportation?

TELL US A REAL DATE WHEN YOU HAVE ONE AND WE CAN MAKE A DECISION WITH CURRENT INFO!!!!!!

Based on what’s been shared here, they are going to give us a date. You just don’t like the schedule.

You mean like how they gave us dates in October. Which they did. They didn't stick to any of it.

Buy a clue. They're still paying all the staff. Including the bus drivers and facilities people. No one has been laid off.

And they are the ones who will happily trot their kids into school on day one when they’ve just gotten off a plane from grandma’s in Florida without any regard to others. The same ones who give their kids Tylenol to mask a fever and then send them to school. Selfish, selfish people.

FCPS parent here who is currently house hunting - is APS doing concurrent or do they have separate in-person and distance learning classes?

Separate in-person and DL classes for elementary. The elementary model is one class stays together and goes in 2x a week and DL 2x a week with the same teacher. Teacher goes in 2x a week and the group is split in two for those two days and goes back and forth between the kids. An "aide" (extended day person ) babysits one group while the teacher is with the other group. So the teachers are only going in 2 days a week in this model.

Middle school and high school will be concurrent.

And they spent a shit load of CARES money getting the buildings ready/HVACs updated/PPE purchased...for no one to be at school.

There is no extra money. Please.

Gmafb. My kid is at a school with a high percentage choosing hybrid, and very few of the families are like this. The vast majority have been extremely conscientious, with no irresponsible choices like the ones you are inventing for them.
