SIL annoyingly nosy about gifts

People are acting like she's asking what color your new sweater is. I feel asking about diamonds is more of an attempt to find out the price, which I don't like.

It's a little late for "looking for ideas" or "comparison shopping" when she's asking them on Christmas morning.

Looks like nosy, smells like nosy -- probably nosy, and probably with a dash of insecure added in for good measure.

This is what I think. When it gets to the level of asking if it is gold or custom or with diamonds, it’s all about comparison.

Depending on the situation, have your husband say he’s not comfortable with it. I think it’s your husband who should say something. Otherwise, the women get blamed for “cat fights” or whatever while the men sit passively around discussing the Jets.

There are a few people like this in my life, each with a different center of interest. They're very social, very curious about others and I think they may seek detailed information to feel connected to people. It's a personality quirk.

I don't mind at all. I indulge them with details and it makes them happy

This person has the right attitude. See if you can channel it.

Not OP here but no it is not your job to spend a holiday answering questions about gifts. It's weird and and you don't need to indulge.

If she asks too many specific questions just say - Why do you ask, are you planning on getting something similar?

+1. BIL's wife is constantly trying to one-up.

I do think it's weird but does sound like SIL is just trying to make conversation and is unaware how it comes across.

Why are you so secretive?
