My daughter lost 11% of body weight. As soon as her ped said that I sent my husband to get formula.
We combo fed and her weight went up. Now for whatever reason she's on a bottle strike but her latch has improved and my milk is flowing. |
Supplement after every feed. However much the baby needs to be full, but nurse until s/he unlatched first because more nursing will increase your supply. Pump if you have one. Eat oatmeal, tons of green veggies, Whole Foods—cut out caffeine, cold medicines, non Herbal supplements not recommended by your pediatrician, and fast food; but Also drink hoppy beer or Malta and take vitamins. I drank about a gallon a day of water, coconut water, lactation tea and Gatorade. Trust the process. You can see his pediatrician to evaluate his latch and see if there’s a tongue tie issue which are quickly remedied in many cases in office, but it may just be low supply right now. As long as he’s fed, you’ll be fine. If you love EBF keep eating well, drinking well, and nursing and your supply will level out. After our early struggles my 3%er EBF for 8 months and breastfed til he was 17 months. Same with my second. Though my milk came in slightly sooner with him, necessitating less supplementation. Feed yourself, sleep, breathe (download the calm app), and FEED the baby. However he eats is a win. |
