Cradle Cap: Is it okay to pick off?

Ditto this. Used it 1x for DD1 and 1x for DD2. Bottle is still mostly full. Any takers? |

| a toothbrush and mineral oil at every bathtime, we skipped shampoo until it cleared as dryness was part of the problem. |

We used the Mustela shampoo, olive oil, Selsun Blue, and a few other things, along with the soft comb massage during bath. Nothing really worked. Finally, I just picked it off. Came off, stayed off. Unfortunately, it also took all of DS's hair except a small (odd) patch in the back.
In case you're worried, I'm quite confident the cradle cap was the only thing holding DS's hair onto his head -- there were no nicks or signs that I was picking too deep or anything. And the hair that grew back in (light, fine, wavy) is totally different than his original (dark, straight, thick) baby hair. |

| I wouldn't forcefully pick it off. But if you rub it with a washcloth or your fingertips and it comes off I think its fine to remove with your fingers. |

| We used baby oil and a fine tooth comb, then shampooed. Even with this approach it took a couple of months to fully go away. |

Also used this and still have most of it! Tried baby oil first and it didn't do much - other than take forever to get out of DS's hair. I did put this cradle cap shampoo on his head and let it sit for awhile before combing and then rinsing it out. I have to admit, though, that DS's hair got really really thick around 18 months and I started noticing really bad cradle cap again when he was two. It was hard to see unless I really parted his hair and looked at his scalp so I let it go for a long time. Eventually I used head and shoulders a couple times and it went away. And then started to come back. I read about it being from oil glands and realized that Aveeno baby wash that I had been using on his whole body - including hair - probably wasn't cutting it, at least to get his scalp clean. Once I started using regular shampoo on him twice a week I got much better and haven't seen it since. |

| 5 year old DD had it (and still gets the occasional spots). We did the baby oil and fine toothed comb bit, but not very often. DS is 2 and never really had an issue. It used to bother me, not so much now. |

| I used Bella Bee Cradle Cap shampoo and flaked it off with a comb. After starting the shampoo it was gone in a few days. The shampoo is really gentle and doesn't include any harsh chemicals -- just tea tree oil -- so I use it at every bath now for both my preschooler and infant to keep the cradle cap at bay. I had dandruff and acne as a young child and teenager and well into my 20s, so I suspect this will be a problem for both my daughters. Poor things. |

We used Burt's Bees baby oil and this cradle cap brush at every bath time, and it went away after a few weeks. Also, I would occasionally rub Aquaphor onto the cradle cap and let it sit for a while. I'd try these methods before using Selsun Blue or one of the harsher shampoos that peds sometimes recommend.

| tried the soft brush and olive oil method for a while... probably about 2 months. it didn't work so ped told us to use selsen blue. used selsen blue a few times, and then once or twice a week until it finally cleared up. |

| 13:16 here. baby was also born with a lot of hair, so slathering him with petroleum jelly was really not an option. |

My daughter got it after we spent a long weekend out at a country house where I wasn't too sure about the water (i.e. iron etc in it) for a baby's bath, and didn't bathe her for three nights. What worked for us was to work olive oil into her hair, work and loosen the cradle cap flakes with a fine toothed comb, brush out as much as possible, sahampoo it out and then reapply the olive oil and let it soak into her scalp overnight. The next day with another bath it all came off and was never a problem again.
