Had checkup - dr wants me to come in to discuss bloodwork results

I assumed the results would be up on the portal, but they are not. The way the person phrased it was concerning (come in to discuss the results), but the fact they're not posted yet is extra concerning now.

I've had thyroid issues for years, and they always just discuss the labwork over the phone and I see the stuff up on the portal right away. So this strikes me as odd. I'll know more in a few hours and update y'all.

This could be their practice, and since you are a new patient, you are not used to it.

It could be a result (like cholesterol) that requires lifestyle changes. If the conversation is long, they may feel it justifies an apt.

There are also more serious/negative things it could mean, but by now you know. Hope it is not ominous.

Let us know.

Hugs.

Why on earth would she scare you and want you to come into the office for that? I’m so glad everything’s OK. But I would be pretty mad at that doctor.

Can't give yourself a B12 shot over telemedicine.

Glad it was nothing, OP!

PP here. Sorry that I just replied without reading the interim posts.

SO relieved with the result.

It was irresponsible of them to leave that mysterious message. Calling you on the weekend, and asking you to come in during a pandemic would panic most people.

THey should have said it was related to nutrition and they wanted you to come in for a shot. Jeesh!!

Unbelievable they called you in for that without letting you know over the phone. I thought at the minimum they found you were borderline diabetic or had very high cholesterol, so that urgent life style changes or worse were needed.

So glad it was minor, OP!

Maybe he wants the billable visit. Can he do a zoom visit?

This. This happened to my friend, and her cholesterol was a bit elevated. That’s it. The doctor clearly just wanted another billable visit. She said it was policy to have people come in for any test results that are outside normal limits. I ALWAYS have SOMETHING that’s outside normal limits (vitamin D or iron or something). I would be pissed.

No, but you can tell OP the results over the phone so that she doesn’t worry it’s cancer.

This is why I now just pay out of pocket and use an online lab that let's you pick whatever labs you want and immediately sends you the results. I don't want to have to go to the doctor then the lab then back to the doctor.

Interesting. How do you do this?

I found the information here! Someone recommended an online lab. I used personalabs but there are now several to choose from. The have sales and discounts when you bundle blood tests. You order it and their doctor orders it. You go to a participating lab to get blood drawn then look online a day or two later and you get the results and can see if anything is out of range. Another benefit is that DH and I use fake names so that if anything is found it is not on your medical records. DH was borderline diabetic. It motivated him to lose weight and when he tested four months later after following obesity code he was in the normal range. Easier to get life insurance when your records don't show diabetes.

When my B12 and iron were dangerously low, my DR called me himself to expect pain the results and told me to start iron and sublingual B12 that day and to drop by his office at my convenience for a B12 shot.

I would be upset with your DR’s approach.

Give a low rating on Google and Yelp review and mention that they made you anxious by not letting you know your results over the phone. It is a money making racket.

Agree. I’m an anxious person, especially about health, but my husband isn’t AT ALL and even he said he’d be a little freaked out. We joked the only thing worse would be if they told you to bring your spouse or support person. I’d be pissed at the doc.
