My kids love being back. I don’t know how the teachers feel about it, but they’re putting on a happy face for the kids. |
AND parents at the lower elementary school got an email about a positive COVID case at school while the kindergarteners were back during the first week. First and second graders returned the following week. Families were just informed at the end of the second week. I’m curious to see how this plays out. |
a case does not an outbreak make. a case that doesn't cause spread at school is not a reason to keep schools closed. |
Agreed. If other kids/teachers in class don’t get Covid, doesn’t this show that the precautions taken work? |
Exactly. This case will test the protocols implemented. I hope the sick child and family recover quickly and am optimistic that there will not be a spread. |
Not sure this case is a good “test” of the mitigation strategy. The school community was notified 12 days after the person was at school (IMO, we still need better testing turn around in the area) and at the start of 10 days off from in person classes. |
TJ parents were notified of someone who was at the school on 11/20 testing positive - notification was on 11/23, so that's a quick turnaround. And it's unclear if it's a kid or staff person.
It's going to happen. Everyone's wearing masks. It's ok. No way are you going to have a situation where there are NO positive cases at schools. The school is doing a great job and there's no reason to retreat now. |
The note that I received on 11/23 said that the person was last in school on 11/20. Where are you getting 12 days? |
The 12 days was for the Mount Daniel case. The last time we had a potential kid-outbreak, it turned out to be a false positive from a rapid test and everyone was cleared by the PCR. Hoping that’s the case again. |
PP—sorry, by “we” I mean FCCPS, not my family personally. |
The FCCPS website lists that they had one student that was positive. I hope they are okay and that more do not turn up. There have been more cases in Falls Church every day this week but we have no idea if they are involved with the schools. This is hard since it is such a small area. |
And there we go - school cancelled for all but K and 3 until January.
Kind of ridiculous IMO that they're letting sports go forward but we can't manage 8 or 9 kids in a classroom for 3 hours. Really disappointed in the leaders on this one. No evidence of spread in the schools at all thus far. My kid is in 4th and half the time the virtual work that's supposed to be posted for them isn't there. What a mess. |
I was disappointed in this too. I think it was the positive cases both at TJ and Mt. Daniel, and then the case incidence rise in FCC itself. |
I was disappointed too but you had to expect this was going to happen since Dr Noonan previewed as much last week with cases continuing to rise. I’ll be shocked if even K and 3rd end up going back before the New Year. I’m far more angry that they wasted the entire first 2.5 months on virtual when cases were much lower. Nevertheless still glad my kid was able to get in for a week to see her classroom/meet her teacher and classmates since who knows when they’ll be back. |
I’m fascinated that FCCPS can have 2 cases and close yet Loudoun has like 8-13 a day in the schools reported at this point, has to hit BOTH primary metrics in the highest threshold possible to even consider a close or pause and is planning on new kids in the buildings next Tuesday right after the holiday. Like why does Loudoun have no aversion to risk whatsoever apparently compared to the other counties. (I am not saying this is a good thing either) |
