Well, right. That's actually the point: Mask-wearing is the least restrictive way to get maximum benefits. If it turns out that the risk of on-field transmission actually approaches zero because community infection rates are sufficiently low, or because our testing and contact tracing is effective and we have an excellent handle on who is and isn't infected in real time, or because it turns out that, in practice, on-field transmission just never ever happens -- well, then it would be silly to insist on mask wearing. But that's not wear we are, and it's a mimimally restrictive measure. Really, not a big deal. They already wear masks for drills and scrimmages, do what difference does it make to wear one during games? As I said, in a contest between no contact sports at all (e.g. sealing people in their homes,) and wearing a mask whenever possible, then it's a very easy call for me. |
| * WHERE we are. Whoops! |
| Different question about MSI classic. This year they combined several age groups— is that because there are far fewer teams playing this year? I wonder if they are sitting the season out or if they went to a different league. |
|
Guessing tons of teams sitting it out. Few leagues are running and they are travel which means more time, more expense, more commitment and a higher level of play. Not sure the average MSI Classic kid or parent would want this.
I also saw that they have a 7v7 group and a 9v9 group for different age groups. What is the difference? |
Two players per side. |
I bet a lot of teams just did not register and went the practice-only route for the fall. The County went down to the wire with their decision to allow games, leaving teams who were not already registered with about a week or so to register--I'm sure plenty of teams had already written the season off. To the person who asked about the 7 v 7 and 9 v 9 difference--I'm thinking it might have to do with roster size. Some teams might not have enough players on their rosters to consistently field 9 v 9 games. My daughter's team has 14 players, so they are playing 9 v 9, while some other teams in their age group are playing 7 v 7. |
That’s my guess- fewer teams. My kid is playing u13/14/15- They are 12 and are going to get crushed by the big kids. |
| I bet you're right about practice-only. I wish our team had done that. I'm comfortable with the low-contact practices, but not so much with games--even with masks. |
Luckily, thye aren’t going to have the u13 play u15 |
