| The schedule the 4th grade teacher presented showed online classes from 8:30-3:30 with two 10 minute breaks and an hour for lunch. I have to believe some of that time will be working independently on actual paper. Otherwise my child is going to explode |
| My kids school only has 30 minutes for lunch which I find disappointing. The kids need more time than that to eat and get a screen break. An hour would’ve been really nice. |
| My 6th grader has 2.5 hours of required time live. There are also 1.5 hours of reading, math, and intervention blocks which he will sometimes need to take a part in but not everyday. So it could vary but it will probably be around 3-3.5 hours of live instruction which is what the county said for this age. I think our school did a good job by color coding our schedule and making sure parents knew that teacher directed time could vary day by day depending on what they are doing. |
We only get 30 minutes for lunch!!! And a short break in the am and one in the pm. |

My 5th grader's schedule (FCPS) is as follows:
9:00 - 9:30 - Morning meeting 9:30 - 10:30 - Science 10:30 - 10:45 - Break 10:45 - 11:15 - Specials 11:15 - 11:45 - First Charger Time (Small group work, and asynchronous learning) 11:45 - 12:45 - Lunch/Recess/Family Choice 12:45 - 1:15 - Second Charger Time (Small group work, and asynchronous learning) 1:15 - 2:15 - Math 2:15 - 2:25 - Break 2:25 - 3:25 - Language Arts 3:25 - 3:40 - Closing Circle I'm generally okay with this schedule, although I feel that there is WAY too much 'doing nothing time' (10:45 - 1:15) in the middle of the day, and it's more academically loaded towards the end of the day. |
The asynchronous is way too much. What are the teachers doing???? |
DP Looks to me like they are meeting with small groups at that time. Do you interpret it differently? |
I don't know if that's true. This article says that VDOE isn't approving plans at all - just requiring submission and offering guidance. It's left up to local school boards. https://www.wsls.com/news/local/2020/07/08/virginia-dept-of-education-is-not-approving-school-reopening-plans-its-up-to-local-school-boards/ |
