Tell me about Fordham

Fordham is not in a sketchy area. Back in 1990s, not now. It is near Bronx zoo, Botanical gardens, free shuttle to Fordham Manhattan campus and college bars And restaurants near by.

But like Villanova pricey and not much aid. Daughter only got 10k and did not go

Can you give me an idea of your income PP?

For Rose Hill

Pros: Excellent business and liberal arts schools

Easy train or van shuttle access to Manhattan

Great merit aid for NMF

The on campus food improved a lot after I graduated, and the off campus food in Little Italy on Arthur Ave. is the best of any school.

No Greek life

The zoo and botanical gardens is north/east of campus. Arthur Avenue is south of the campus and usually OK. Only west of the campus is a rougher area. The campus is gated, security is excellent.

Cons:

$$$$

STEM programs aren't worth it

Sports are D1 but mediocre

The campus isn't active on weekends - some kids go home, others party in the city, or they party at the off campus bars until late then sleep in.

I only heard this second hand, but apparently the food is still not great. Another pro for the list: A lot of students seem to take advantage of the internship opportunities in NYC.
(My child seriously considered Fordham, but didn't attend.)

Bizarre that you turned down a potentially good fit for this sole reason. Utterly bizarre.

+1

+1 I fill out the FAFSA annually to keep my kids merit aid. The FAFSA isn't that invasive. Truly. Nearly everything I report can be backed out well enough from the information returns supplied to the IRS. It just isn't a big deal.

My college roommate's daughter is a recent grad. Fordham wasn't her first choice, but she got significant merit aid which made a big difference to her family. She was admitted to an honors program that required her to live on the Rose Hill campus. She ended up having a great experience, including a terrific internship that turned into a job offer after graduation.

It's great ... all the pluses of the other Catholic/Jesuit colleges, but I think it's more diverse in terms of student body and ideology.

Did not require us to do so. Perhaps you misunderstood.

+1. No college requires the FAFSA to review the app. (Merit is another matter entirely, as some colleges require the FAFSA to rule out Pell eligibility before dispensing merit.)

Translation: It's loud, dirty, crowded - it's a shit hole. And yeah push comes to shove your suburban snow flake is no match for the kids who grew up in that neighborhood with nothing when they decide they want your kids airpods.
