If you have 3 kids, and you have a minivan, what is your 2nd car?

It really makes no sense. You choose to have a large family. OP has three small kids, 3 should be in car seats, minimum two and none in the front.

Keep up, honey. Teenaged sons don't need car seats. They can sit in the front.

For smaller kids, it's absolutely possible to fit three carseats across in any normal car or small SUV. They already own a larger vehicle for an extended drives. There across would only be for occasional local trips.
