Our small, doing-everything-right daycare is closed for 2 weeks due to outbreak

My friends daycare in Anne Arundel county has shut down twice. First time they reopened when the kid was not positive- kid had been exposed so they closed the classroom out of caution. That quarantine stopped at one week. Second was two siblings testing positive. Whole school shut down for two weeks.

My friends daycare in Arlington had one class shut down after someone tested positive. Because there was no intermingling, the other classes stayed open.

Why is this a big deal? People are going to test positive. Did anyone even get very sick?what would you suggest? Everything closed until there are no cases anywhere, everyone’s gone crazy and the economy is decimated?

Why is this a big deal? You're asking why getting Covid is a big deal?

Sincerely asking (we also have kids in daycare now), how do they know it was transmitted at school?

I’m sorry to hear that. Hope everyone is ok.

No one knows if it was transmitted at school, but what is known is that any positive students can potentially infect their classmates and teachers. That’s the problem.

PP here - it matters a lot of it was transmitted at school. The safety measures have been put in place because people are expecting individuals to test positive, but hopefully stopping transmission in the daycares.

It actually doesn’t sound like an out break, just that some folks there tested positive. No one is expecting zero individuals who attend daycare to be positive, but there is a lot of faith that the safety measures will stop transmissions.

You are only as safe as the weakest link.

My friend’s daycare in DC recently shut down for 2 weeks after a teacher tested positive. Fortunately the case was mild and everyone else tested negative (including the co-teacher and all kids in the COVID-teacher’s room).
