Do your pre-teens wrestle

Anonymous
DS did for as long as I can remember. He’s a teen now. That’s why I signed him up for wrestling in mid elementary school. He ended up loving it and then some of his friends also joined, since that seemed to be their preferred activity when they all hung out. It’s a great sport, although it took a little getting used to for me!

8:16 here and I noticed one is a girl. Still normal. My daughter would also do it, but not with his or her friends. I think she would have wanted to join if there were girls only groups in our area. I looked once and it seemed more serious than what she wanted. She is also an athletic girl with “sports aggression” so wrestling her brother was normal. Better than fighting.

10 yo son and his best friend, a girl his age love to wrestle each other. She beats him most of the time and he often jokes about it saying "Larla kicked my butt again, but it was still fun".

DD 11 still does this with her friends, she's even on the wrestling team at her school. She's a very athletic and competitive girl.

We actually have family fight night quite often. They especially LOVE wrestling me, the mom, it's such a novelty for them.

Sorry, I just notice you have a boy and a girl. In that case, probably not likely to go into their 20s, lol, but could go on for a while.

Two brothers OTOH may wrestle for many, many years.

I have 3 brothers and it STILL goes on in their 40s!! My boys LOVE the holidays because there is a lot of rolling around and head locks.

My 11 yr old twin girls are wrestling on the trampoline right at this moment. I was just watching them out the window and marveling that some things never change when I clicked on this thread. Was halfway wondering if OP was one of my neighbors...

Not since early grade school really.

Too funny! Same in my house. 11 and 14. We call our formal living room the wrestle room because that’s where there is space for them to roughhouse and the room is barely used otherwise.

My 19 yo son and his best friend, a 17 year old girl still wrestle each other. They've been doing it since they were 7 and 5.

My 11yr old had to write an essay for his private school admissions. He had to write it on the spot with only the admissions person. He wrote about our family "fight nights ". The tester came out and was laughing her butt off when she told me his topic of choice. Said it was a first for her. I was very glad he explained it properly and CPS wasn't called!

Anonymous wrote:Tell them to keep at it. Wrestling is a pretty good sport and quite a bit safer now with a better set of weight rules (and parent involvement). Kids now are not permitted to cut weight from their pre-season weight. And, women’s wrestling is growing very fast. Even if there is no Girls high school Wrestling team yet chances are pretty good there will be one very soon (fastest growing high school sport in Texas is girls wrestling and other states are adding it fast - it helps with title ix compliance). But, pretty much every school with a good wrestling program has girls filling out the lower weight classes. This avoids forfeits in those classes when opposing teams show up with someone in say the sub 106 and sub 113 classes.

Huh? She is tlaking about playing around wrestling at home, not on teams. And indoor literally-on-top-of-each-other wrestling is one of the stupidest ideas during a pandemic.

Yep, 13 yo son does with his best friend, a girl in his grade at school. They've been to every school together since daycare and for as long as I can remember they've always wrestled each other. Every time she comes over to hang out or to sleepover the first thing they do is wrestle in the backyard.
