Try outs

Clubs seem to have ebbs and flows, this year will probably kill off a few, but others are expanding. I think if look at practice locations for U9-12 that's probably the deciding factor for most parents. We're at Gunston and happy to be playing EDP next year. Most kids on the team could play for bigger clubs, but most want local. I'm sure it's the same for every tiny club that probably should merge into a larger club

We are desperately short (Lee-Mt. Vernon); there's 25 or so girls showing up for 06-02 age groups. I understand it's really only 06-03, but that's four age groups. I understand COVID, but we should still have two teams per age group. Every age group will be half "playing up" or half "previously white team". There's no way there is an 06 team again this year. I haven't seen the ones younger than 06s, but 07 and 08 didn't even play CCL last season.

If Alexandria is still having tryouts we're going to check them out.

Bring your checkbook. With their academy system, you have to keep buying supplemental training and extra programs to get any meaningful development. All in cost will get you well up to $3-$4k before you even take into account travel costs.

I didn't find that to be the case. My son did a few of the supplemental training programs, but certainly not all of them. He's made progress and moved up teams as he improved. YMMV.

OP here--thank you. We're a little worried to switch this late, but we're not hesitant (not settled on Alexandria but we are moving). A real eye-opener these past few weeks. I've been talking with other parents looking to leave (or have already left) and the rumor is that Lee-Mt. Vernon won't be playing CCL. We already moved our white teams out of CCL2 last year, and with all the missing teams/inability to compete, the fear is that CCL won't schedule us and will find a club that's not having issues. CCL might not even have to look for a filler given COVID. No word from the club, last time we heard anything was when asked "will there be a 2003 team? will there be a 2004 team?". Both were answered "we are doing what we can, every club is having issues". That's not true. DD is too old, can't wait for club to figure it out.

Sorry about your situation. The CCL on the girls side was having problems before COVID. The CCL may be a league that does not make it.

Here is the info on the age groups that are looking: https://alexandria-soccer.org/programs/academy/academy-tryouts/

They appear to not even have a 2010 girls team!

CCL will make it just fine. Some clubs won't, but the league is more than healthy.

No, they have one, but the girls' teams in that age group do not need more players, and thus, they are not holding tryouts for them.

OP here... better than us, we're struggling just to roster multiple multi-year/multi-level teams.

Sorry, correction - they do not have one, but rather, several teams for 2010 girls that are full.

no, i'm a freaked out parent leaving lmvsc. i've had suspicions that things are worse than they appear to be and these past couple of weeks have confirmed that. feel free to update yourself on the lmvsc town hall thread.

I mean, if you don't give a reason, this recommendation is not convincing. You say you are a parent that is unhappy with another club, but that doesn't mean switching to Alexandria specifically. My son plays for Alexandria, and I am reasonably happy with it, but don't understand the point of you posting this as you did.

i would recommend anybody in the city of Alexandria that isn't with Alexandria Soccer yet to transfer to Alexandria Soccer, Gunston Soccer, Arlington Soccer. the reasoning? go to the lmvsc town hall thread. it's bad there. the 02 (U19) won't exist, the 03 (U18) has a lot of players leaving and might not exist without combining, the 04 (U17) has a lot of players leaving and might not exist without combining, the 05 (U16) has players leaving and might have to combine red and white, the 06 (U15) doesn't exist, the 07 (U14) and 08 (U13) didn't play in CCL and i wouldn't be surprised if players are leaving and have to combine. is that convincing enough?

If your looking for an honest club, I’m not sure Alexandria is going to be any better (past experience suggests that they may be worse). Ask yourself what you want for your kid and seek out that environment. Not to sound too crass, but the clubs around here don’t care about your kid, they care about your money. You need to be very proactive if you want to end up in the ‘right/best’ situation.
