Grill out with neighbors. (Legal) fireworks. |
First, being grateful we aren't currently in the crowded DMV.
So we will be grilling outdoors with family, enjoying the lake and swimming and boat, and fireworks on our driveway. |
Enjoy the lake, but it's not that crowded here. We're enjoying biking through the half-empty streets. |
Look up the 442nd Infantry Regiment. They fought for America despite their relatives and friends being interned by its government. And they were the most decorated unit for their size in the history of the American military. They were the Nisei regiment - all second-generation Japanese-Americans. Look up the 369th Infantry Regiment. The Harlem Hellfighters in two world wars. Rejected altogether at first, some men went to Canada to enlist, they were so determined to play a role. Do I need to go on with this? You can look narrowly and negatively at the fourth and see only white men in powdered wigs. Or you can say they're only part of the story and we can reclaim the fourth as a celebration of everyone who worked and fought and still works and fights to move toward a "more perfect Union." No one said the union is or was perfect, only that it can become more perfected if we work at it. The soldiers in those legendary regiments considered themselves Americans enough to risk and give their lives. Celebrate for them if you don't like founding fathers. I would wager that many a Nisei regiment solider and Harlem Hellfighter celebrated the fourth in their times and the meaning it held for them despite the fact they were so rejected by the rest of America as men. We need to reclaim the celebration and expand it, not shrug it off and say that "optics-wise" it's not a good look. You can ignore it, or you can make it about all of America. What do you choose? Why not say, this is how we started our political independence, these are the mistakes we made and still make, and there are so many people who have done and are doing better? Spend the day telling people about these regiments. And Maggie L. Walker. And Alice Paul. And Shirley Chisholm. And Dr. Mabel Ping-Hua Lee.... |
Smoking a brisket, bake 4th of July dessert with DCs, take a hike and watch a movie. After watching the aftermath of Memorial Day, absolutely no get togethers. |
I don't care who was in the infintary, at this point in time flying over a city does nothing to honor or help anyone! Folks are struggling with their lives re. Covid, bills re. unemployment, civil unrest, serving overseas with a bounty over their head and all manner of things. Create a video show it, be done! DC never got paid last time, 3 million would buy a lot of food, supplies, and mortgage/rent for military and others! So ridiculous like a fly over organized by Trump has anything to do with honro, do you actually know any service men and women, because if so you would know how they feel right now! |
BBQ with one other family. Looking forward to it! |
Stay home & prevent to go out. We may watch a movie, bake some cookie, at most walking in the neighborhood. Even though I have send my kid back to daycare last week, I am not giving in to do let anyone going to park, restaurant, pool, playground, supermarket (except me once every 2 weeks), anyone houses etc. I am about to go in office to work, so no choice need to send him back to daycare. |
Do some of you just ignore the news? Wear a mask and keep socially distanced. Gatherings are a horrible idea.

What we do every year - grill out in our back yard, buy some fireworks and let them off at dusk. |
We'll throw some steaks on the grill plus I'll make something for the non-meat eating kid, then we'll set off some legal fireworks in the yard. I might bake a cake if the kids want it. |
I'll just watch the 8 million illegal fireworks going off in my neighborhood, and maybe see the police and fire trucks come out to make sure roofs aren't on fire. And maybe they'll be a fist fight like there was last year when Larla hit Larlo's house with their illegal fireworks and almost set it on fire. |
Wow we're up to page 3 and no one is going to Trump's fireworks on the Mall! Let's hope that people listen to Mayor Bowser & stay away. |
We’ve been seeing the bil, sil and their two kids. We will all go boating, swim and then bbq. I’m sure there will be some sparklers. |
We've been having gatherings with the same families for six weeks now. Outside, no masks. Lots of food and drinks. |
