How much new stuff are you buying your kids?

Anonymous
Yes, lots. Mostly small stuff that I would have avoided buying before because we didn't spend enough time at home to need more toys (cars, figures, new kitchen stuff, art supplies, etc). Also more outdoor stuff. And lots of legos. And books (although switched to library recently, yay!).

As others have said, I'm not paying for childcare and dont feel bad about spending $100 a month of stuff that keeps us occupied.

Me too! LEGO is my kid’s LIFE right now.

We are not paying for child care, so I feel fine buying more toys.

He will spend HOURS engrossed in LEGO, making up stories and switching out different character & details. Besides LEGO, we’ve gotten additional Magna Tiles, a few little vehicles, art supplies, books, and outside stuff like water and sand toys, balls, & bubbles.

He also had a birthday with lots of surprise packages from family and is transitioning from toddler stuff to preschool stuff. It’s just been a time of going through his toys, giving little kid stuff to friends, and bringing new big kid stuff in to encourage his new interests & abilities.

Sooooo many new lego sets. Keeps them happy and off screens (somewhat) and whatever. I’ll deal with it post-pandemic.

Probably $300/mo since March on new books, Legos, art supplies and clothes.

I’m embarrassed by our LOL slide, too! But DD plays on it every day, and I caught DH comparing (tiny) backyards with a coworker via laptop and they also had one.

I don't see anything wrong with it. I have a slightly older kid and he's not asking for anything but we had a younger kid I'd probably consider it. I wouldn't have spent that much but I would have gotten one.

Books. So many books. (They are six and don't read on a Kindle yet)
Coloring/art supplies, since they go through these
Outdoor/water toys

No new clothes though, so I figure that's saving us some money!

I bought 1 new thing since closure. A nintendo Switch with 5 switch games and extra controllers. They've never said they were bored the entire time. I feel like they already had everything they needed like bikes, scooters, basketball hoop, water balloons, art supplies, board games etc. I don't want to buy anything else, I'd rather travel, but slim chance that's going to happen. We did end up going to the beach 6 times already. It was really nice, and definitely needed!

Lots of books and a few extra sketchbooks/art supplies. My son would be in heaven if I bought him more LEGO sets, but he puts them you pretty fast and then they just sit around useless on a shelf.

minimalist here and have a toddler, still haven't bought that much. books and some more duplo sets but he's happy with rocks and pots and pans and my sink of course. my house is a mess but I can put it back together. I think if you can afford it it's fine and if the kids want the toys but my first thought would be to try alternatives first. we're also not rich haha but agree that just staying inside activities or toys or not i'm going crazy.

Yard games.
Books.
Board games.
Legos
Inflatable pool and sprinkler.
Bubble sets.
First video game system.

It’s a crap ton but we both need to work and need them somewhat occupied.

My kids are 2 and 4. Since covid I've bought some books, an insect lore caterpillar habitat, art supplies, and some board games. I'm also about to buy a new bike for the oldest, and may get another outdoor toy for summer. I'm generally reluctant to add more clutter to our living space.

Between wanting to keep the kids entertained and support local businesses bought a good amount, especially in the beginning - books, craft kits, All Fired Up kit, Nintendo Switch games, board games....

None except for a book each and a bunch of masks. They have plenty.
