Op - have her start with 12 credits. 12 credits is still full time.

Or, and this works better at larger universities, always sign up for more credits than you intend to keep, attend all classes in the beginning -especially to try out the professor. Watch the "drop" date, and adjust your schedule/change sections/change professors/change the time of day -- whatever makes it work best.

It's the advantage of the anonymity of a large university.

Many selective colleges don't really work that way... also did you know most of their classes are 4 credits not 3 so students at "selective" school only take 4 classes a semester... not there is not a lab.
