| It takes a while for the body to adjust to running. You have to really stick with it. I am a runner but even when I have taken time off due to injuries and being pregnant and it is still very hard to get back into it. You just have to go slow and set small goals at a time. |
| Look into hoka one-one sneakers, they have a really thick and plush sole that takes the pain away. Warning: They do look like moon boots |
| I do it but it isn’t fun for me. I’m very large-chested and the running bras that provide the right support are uncomfortable. It’s a silly thing to get hung up on, but when I see someone gliding by in a cute tank with a built-in shelf bra I realize that I’m expending a ton of money and effort to even get dressed for running. I resent it! |
| Yeah I loathe it. I don’t run instead. |
| Please, no one take this the wrong way. But the knee pain is probably a function of weight and not due to running being inherently bad for you. I've found that when I gain any weight at all, my knees hurt running. But when I'm skinny (bmi 19-20) I experience no knee pain. |
Also in my 30s and hate it. Used to run track years ago on a really competitive team. I quit running abruptly once I accepted how much I hated it. It's rough on your body and it doesn't lead to the aesthetic that I appreciate. I love barre, cycling, and lifting and they lead to results that I want for myself. Save your knees, OP! |
| I also loathe running. I love biking (outdoor or spin class), hiking, intense long walks, and any in-person HIIT training. Swimming is a good workout too, but it's just so much work to get ready for it that I don't do it much. |
| I love running. I didn’t discover this until my 30s. I’m not especially good at it but I ran my first half marathon 3 years ago. I went back to work and really fell off the wagon but since the stay home order I am starting up again. I don’t like HIIT or resistance training. I am okay with yoga, love dance. |
| I used to run a lot as a teenager. I found it really cleared my head, for one thing. But I hurt my back (doing another sport) in my 20s and my body hasn't been the same since. I can't run regularly now -- especially on hard surfaces -- but can play pick-up soccer on grass. For cardio I usually do the elliptical or stationary bike at my gym (pre-Covid, of course). |
Me too. Hate the bouncing boobs, the compression bras, the uni-boob, the sheer discomfort of running with big boobs - yuck! |
|
Yeah, it’s not for the heavy breasted or the overweight (in general), but I’m not sure why you would need to start an entire thread about why you hate it.
You should develop a hobby other than starting threads on stuff you don’t do and don’t like to do. It’s seriously lame. |
Yep. This. I have to get down to a certain weight before I even attempt running. If I’m carrying too much weight, it just kills my knees. In the meantime, I ride my bike a lot. It keeps my legs strong and seems to strengthen my knees, so it really prepares me for running. I once ran a 5k without training at all, but I had been riding my bike. I had my best 5k time ever. OP, if running makes you miserable, just don’t do it. Find whatever exercise you hate the least and stick with that. |
| I hate it, hate it. My husband loves it, my dad loves it...I tried for years, but I just can't enjoy it. I finally bought a Peloton. LOVE that so much more. I finally enjoy exercise. |
1. I hate running (distance runner for many years) 2. Running is not fun 3. I run Remember, if you see someone smiling while running, they're doing it wrong. |
| For heavy cardio, I like the elliptical. I love walking. I walk about 6 miles a day at a 4-5 mph (fast walk pace) depending on how I feel that day. |
