Plenty of walkable communities very close to VHC--the neighborhoods bordering Ballston (parts of Waverly Hills, Cherrydale, Tara, Westover, etc).

1.4 is absolutely doable.

I don't hate on Lyon Village, but that neighborhood is further east than you need to be, so it doesn't make sense to look there especially considering the price goes up the further east you go.

Awesome, how are the schools in these areas? Any ones to look out for?

Public schools are all good there, as far as I know. I have many friends with kids at Glebe Elementary who love it. I am not up to date on daycare recs, but as for preschool, Little Ambassadors Academy is just north of VHC and is awesome for the 2 - 5 yo age group. Their hrs are 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

I love Lyon Village, but you won't get much for your money there. I'd look in Cherrydale, Ashton Heights and other neighborhoods around Ballston. City of Falls church is a good compromise too. (I used to live a mile from Mosaic and now I live a mile from VHC.) Or houses in FFX county feeding into Mclean HS or Marshall HS would be close to Mosaic and not too far from VHC.

Will be nothing in Ballston worth walking to when this thing is over.
