With the money my brother saved from not paying for private school he spent on tutoring writing, math, and science to make sure my nephew would do well in college.
I believe there is a recent thread in which an African American got into Harvard and his Dad did this maneuver. The kid's senior year he went to a crappy school but was the high school president and also I believe quarterback or something like that on the football team. His scores and academics were solid from the previous better school.
