Strategically transfer to crappy school for the last year

He attended that school k-8 then sent him to a underperforming, diverse, high school that had strong athletics. My nephew became captain of his sports team and played varsity for three years. He graduated with a 4.0 and got into better colleges than his friends from his former school who were B students, athletic, and performed academically the same - they also had similar test scores.
With the money my brother saved from not paying for private school he spent on tutoring writing, math, and science to make sure my nephew would do well in college.

I believe there is a recent thread in which an African American got into Harvard and his Dad did this maneuver. The kid's senior year he went to a crappy school but was the high school president and also I believe quarterback or something like that on the football team. His scores and academics were solid from the previous better school.

OP its actually not a stupid strategy. We lived in Atlanta for two years and my DD was in city public HS & took the PSAT as a 9th grader and scored highest in the entire state - and it was in 95th percentile (can't remember what numbers were then.) Guidance counselor and principal met with her and said with the school's profile she'd be heavily favored to get in pretty much wherever she wanted, no problem. We moved here to MoCo where her IB diploma, 4.5 weighted GPA, extracurriculars etc etc were just per normal among a huge group of high achieving kids in high achieving county. Sure she got in an Ivy and was awarded $$$ but her gilded path to her desired school would have more than likely happened if she'd been a stand out in a low achieving school in a State and city offering less than here. (And as far as being underserved she ended up having to take college classes as a HS here too as she blew past what was offered so OP-I could see it working out!!!
