Favorite family board games for all ages?

I highly recommend going to Labyrinth Games in Eastern Market. They have a huge selection, and the staff are super knowledgeable. They host kids game nights, and many have kids themselves, so they can speak to the games that have good overlap.

We have friends who play Catan with younger kids where everyone plays with their hands showing. It makes things move a bit more quickly and evens out the playing field a bit. You can also play to smaller victory points or until someone builds 2 cities. I think the "problem" with some of the strategy based games is that they can take too long to play. My 7 year old grasps the rules and some of the strategies pretty well but he doesn't have the patience to play a 90 minute game.
