Look, I hate to say this, but if you can't even afford the cost of the drugs, then you probably can't afford to raise a child. |
I was just going to say the above. A baby ends up costing A LOT more than fertility treatments. Sadly, you may need to cut back in other areas in order to afford both the drugs and the eventual baby. |
Careful how you read a post. More affordable and cost effective don't automatically equal can't afford. |
The OP said "there is no way we can afford these drugs". Am I missing something? |
I am the 16:23 poster and was responding to my original post, which the 15:39 poster quoted. |
Hello I am in desperate need for the Gonal pens if you still have them.We pay everything out of pocket and have spend over $4000 just on the drugs so far. Please email me at ramincookie@gmail.com |
I thought it was illegal to resell or give away prescription medicines? I can understand that a doctor's office would be allowed to do so, but if you have left over prescription drugs, I don't think the government is ok with you giving them directly to another person... If you don't want trouble from the DEA, it's probably a better idea to donate them to the dr and allow them to give them to needy patients. |
A doctor's office is not a licensed pharmacy and therefore is in no better position to pass along fertility meds than any of us on this board are. My SG doc even told me as much and said the nurses pass along meds as a favor to patients, but he never wanted to hear/know anything about it.
I seriously hope the DEA is spending resources going after much bigger issues than the "pass along" of a $900 fertility med pen to someone with a legitimate prescription. I have been the recipient of donated meds from some wonderful women and from my clinic. Am I running a risk? Yes. But, apparently I am at no more risk receiving them from sone wonderfully generous women than I am from my own clinic. |
I feel awful but I was thinking the same thing. And babies continue to cost money for a long, long time. |
ITA with this. Please, whoever you are, stop continually reminding people that passing along meds isn't legal. I think we all know that. But when you are spending $30k in cash because you have NO insurance for fertility meds, you try and save whereever you can. And please don't always assume that if someone can't afford the meds that they can't afford the baby. We have a HHI of $150k but we had to pay everything out of pocket last year - to the tune of nearly $50k. So while we aren't necessarily poor, it was hard to afford all the meds when 1/3 of our HHI was spent on treatments. Fast forward to this year, we have our daughter and we have absolutely no problem affording what she needs and that includes a $1700/mo daycare bill. |
THANK YOU!!! I am tired of seeing the comments about not being able to afford a baby if I CHOOSE not to spend my money on meds. I am totally out of pocket and have spent $60K on treatments myself. It is nice to have a break on something in this process and donated meds happens to be that something. |
