Grayson, Finley or Chadwick

Anonymous
Chad is a douche boys name. Chad plays lacrosse, lives in a frat house, and only got into private school because mom and dad have money. Chadwick’s is the name of a women’s store that sold preppy, expensive clothes it’s also a small chain restaurant in Alexandria and previously in Friendship Heights. It’s not a good kid’s name. All of the suggested names sound pretentious to me, like you are trying really hard to give your kid a name that sounds like a rich WASP. If you want to do that, go with something more classic that will stand the test of time.

The point with names like these is that they are actual family names. If you are going for that, pick the maiden names of grandmothers and great grandmothers and go with the best one.

Yeah, I think Finley/Finn is fine. Even if this is a troll post, I wouldn't side-eye the name. Heck, even Grayson, while overdone at the moment, is okay. Chad is a caricature of a name nowadays though.

I know 3 Graysons - 2 are girls.

Please tell me Dabney is a typo and you meant Darby

If you did mean Dabney, please tell me her middle name is Sutton.

There’s a Dabney on the DC Court of Appeals. She used to go out with Brett Kavanaugh <shudder>

OP, all these names are awful.

Picking someone else's random wasp-y sounding surname as your kid's given name is NOT classy, its strivery at best and lame.

This website is great, it has the real etymology of names and many lists of interesting types of names (biblical names, country of origin names, mythological names). Check it out, OP and get better options: https://www.behindthename.com/

It is also an old English name by itself, just Chad (formerly, Ceadda). But as a nickname, most of the Chads I knew were actually named Charles.

These kinds of names are only acceptable if it's a last name somewhere in your family. Otherwise it's trying too hard.

They’re all horrible.

Can we get a John or a Michael or something halfway normal?

These names are terrible, and I know someone with a Finley. She really likes to highlight her Irish roots.

i like Finley for a girl. Grayson is too trendy for my taste and Chadwick sounds very old money WASPy although I guess the only Chadwick I can actually name is Chadwick Boseman, so maybe I am wrong about the WASP thing.

+1000. This whole trend of picking random waspys sound last names to use as first names makes is lame and will date as poorly as Jennifer and Tiffany in the 80s. Harper, Addison, Grayson, Asher, Hudson, etc. Yuck yuck yuck!
