The Stranger on netflix

I just finished watching it and loved it, although it was a bit hard to keep up with all the storylines. I figured out the stranger was going to be Adams sister pretty early on but not that she was Martins daughter. I also thought maybe she was transgender but then realised thats why they did the name Chris, so we as an audience would assume the kid was a boy and that was one of the twists.

I didnt like the ending. I would have preferred that Adam is known is Tripps killer but he gets away with it with an insanity plea or something because he just found his wife in the dirt. Now its another secret, which makes me wonder if there will be another season.

One thing I did like about the show was that it was diverse -- there were characters that were of African/Caribbean/Asian descent without their ethnicity being part of the story. That type of representation doesn't tend to happen in US shows, and if it does, it's one or two characters, not a third of the cast.

I noticed this too! It actually made me look up UK demographics. 2.3% of British folks are of African descent — this show had me thinking it was more like 20%! I guess over representation is far better than underrepresentation.

Well there are definitely more Black actors in Britain than you'd realize just by looking the general UK demographics.

I REALLY loved this show...like a lot. I will definitely re-watch it in the future. I loved the lead actress too.

This show was so... amateurish.

It seemed weird that there were lots of gun incidents, given that guns aren't common in the UK. Is this because it's a US novel transferred to the UK?

Yes but she was a lot younger than him. She was also beautiful but an awful, awful actress. So miscast.

When they were in Chrissy's apartment, Adam was chained up, she shared how she had an operation when she was 18 and needed a DNA match. That is how she learned she wasn't the child of Martin. That "operation" is what changed her from a boy to a girl. I can't believe so many of you missed that!

It reminded me of Twilight and other series geared towards young adults. Unsatisfying and lacking in depth or nuance.

They left this so vague...was she transgender or were we just led to beleive she was a boy by the name Chris.
They never really made that clear.

In a show with a flipping alpaca and 38 red herrings, you "can't believe" that people missed literally one line of dialogue?

OK, Columbo.

No-he says child, toddler, Chris-but never son or daughter.

And at one point Adam makes a statement about Martin's child and uses "they/their" as a pronoun, which was inconsistent with his pronoun use before -- the gender of Martin's child shouldn't have been unknown to him at that point. I was actually wondering if Martin's child was transgender and Adam was aware of that.

Adam not recognizing Chris would have made sense because she was a lot younger than he was, but that also seems to be inconsistent with Chris being Adam's father's child, since if Adam's father was still near by, wouldn't Adam be kind of around? Or were he and his father estranged at that point?

I binged it while home sick, it was perfect for that, because I wasn't thinking too hard about it, nor did I have too long to think about it.

All of this. I’m black so this was nice to see and it didn’t seem at all forced.

Just binged, loved it. Makes me want to read his books, I assume there will be more robust details and better character development in book form, but the tv show was fun!
