You do know that MANY GDA players get waivers to play HS soccer, right? Top scorer and YNT player from NEFC plays HS soccer. Not sure about Atlantic division, but the NE has multiple players on most teams on private school waivers every fall. |
No. What the poster above was saying is there is no resentment when an ECNL player goes off to play HS. Those ECNL players are the benchwarmers of the ECNL club and can only find playing time and success at a HS level. It really ends up being private training at the ECNL practices for the "elite" members of ECNL. |
Thank you. Not sure what's up that other person's ass. I don't even have a daughter or a HS aged son. In reading the thread, I was thinking that it could be possible for some tension between the non-HS players and the HS players. It's nice that it seems like, for the most part, there is no tension. |
| Facts: I checked 3 high schools, all with 18-20 games, before any state championships. All with 2-3 games per week. Pre-season conditioning has already started at the beginning of January, and speaking for our local school, if you want to make the team, you participate. Coach says it every year and he means it. |
In the northeast, yes many do. That has long been a private school dominant region. Plenty of other states, no, and on all 3 Virginia DA clubs, I don't know of a single waiver player. On the boys' side across multiple DA clubs, I don't know of a single player. On Sky Blue FC, long-standing YNT player and top scorer does not get a waiver. |
I don't know who may have said resentment. I may have missed that post. I didn't. I said I know several ECNL players who don't play high school because they don't like it. They don't care if anyone else does. I asked a couple who even did it their senior years before college and they said they were preparing for their college teams and didn't want high school soccer to give them any bad habits going into their freshman years at college. |
I said look at last years schedules as they are obviously complete. Spring season schedules for the upcoming season are not complete. |
(SEE BOLDED) 4 games in 6 days is great for the kids. |
Last year they played in 19 games https://www.westfieldathletics.org/main/teamschedule/id/4028/seasonid/4419044 18-23 games depending on your schools division. Facts. March 5th to May 29. 3 Months. Facts. |

DON"T PLAY!
IT'S THAT SIMPLE! |

The OP asked the following:
The points regarding HS soccer are relevant to the OP in regards to understanding the league. ECNL hitched their wagon to HS soccer since GDA so it is pretty much a package deal if ECNL is the route they choose for their daughter. For middle school it is not a big deal but for high school the facts that were pointed out are relevant. Yes, the cost of ECNL is high. Yes, the ECNL season is compressed to accommodate the HS season. Yes, during the HS school season ECNL practices are limited, modified or outright skipped by players. Practices are blended with multiple age groups. Great if you are young training with older kids not great if your DD is an older kid playing with younger kids. (Kinda the same with HS soccer) Yes, with an abbreviated ECNL season that during the HS season that encompasses two showcases the opportunity cost is high in regards to the unused training fees. |
