Get the midsized Lexus. |
| How is the fit and finish of the Mazda vs. the Audi? If I were in OP’s shoes, that would break the tie for me. |
OP here. The fit and finish in the Mazda won us over, so we decided to go with that this weekend. 2020 Mazda CX-9 Signature with all the bells and whistles. Price was about 25k cheaper than a fully loaded q7. The Audi feels like I’m paying for a badge as the quality feels about 10 years behind the Mazda. The Audi had too much cheap plastic and the 3rd row seat is basically useless in the Audi. Don’t need another status symbol car like I thought initially. Thanks everyone |
Well done! Enjoy your new car! |
| Thanks! |

Honestly - if you're going to compare the actual performance (smooth ride, acceleration, etc), the two are not even in the same galaxy much less the same universe. This is not even taking price into consideration.
We have the Q7 and CX9 - believe it or not. They're both really attractive vehicles but the Q7 is like driving/riding on air, inside of a spaceship. The CX9 does not even compare, although it is still a fine vehicle that is really reliable. |
| I had a previous iteration of the Q7 and I hated the drive. |
I’m the OP. I test drove both and I can honestly say the Q7 has a much harsher ride. |

The CX9 does not even compare, although it is still a fine vehicle that is really reliable." That was my experience, looking at the CX5 vs Q5. No comparison - I thought the Mazda seats and ride quality were terrible. To each her own, I guest. I love my Audi - makes me happy to drive, and no issues after 7 years. |
I found the opposite to be true. The CX-9 feels like it’s on rails and I love the HUD display (it tells you when someone is behind you and even gives you the speed limit) and the lane sensing. The Audi didn’t have that, and their hud felt cheap. Also, the ride was much harsher and felt like I was driving a 5 year old SUV that was brand new. As you said, though, to each your own!

This anecdote sounds made up, a new 911 is easily $1200/month to lease |
Cost depends entirely on how much you pay up front. If it was really $600/mo he must have put down a crazy stupid amount. |
The Millionnaire Next Door approach. Smart. |

We have a q7 prestige. I bought for my wife and I think she has driven it 5 times. I drive it and it is fine - she bought a Kia telluride recently and loves it. I like the tech of the Kia and displays better than the Audi actually.
But there is no comparison to the ride and driving it. Kia is nice but rides “cheap” compared to the Audi. The one thing I really do not like about the q7 is no spare tire and also gave me a little concern when we would drive long distances with the kids. The Audi is a little dated interior wise - and I probably will trade it in for a Lexus lx or GX since the q7 and telluride are basic same size. |
