I can’t tell you how many friends I have who’ve idiot golden retriever or lap had eaten expensive shoes, swallowed socks (5 figure vet bill) or chewed up kitchen cabinets.

Everyone has a lab, and there's a reason for it. They are great family dogs and great starter dogs for first time dog owners. Sonof course you hear about your friend's lab chewing xyx. Because everyone has a lab, not a Cane Corso or Shiba Inu.

People who work full time have dog walkers.

Not everyone. Step outside the bubble.

Your poor dog.

Better for the OP to get whatever breed of dog that they want. They are the ones that will have to live with the dog for many years.

Or not. They might get frustrated and send the dog to a shelter.
I think someone would get more frustrated with a breed of dog that they didn't want in the first place rather than one they wanted.

OP clearly has no clue about dogs.

Had to pay over $1200 for a cardiologist visit for my chihuahua mix because he was having some irregular heart rhythm problems.

We recently got a puppy ( corgi) and so far the monthly expense is:

Insurance $50.00
Food $60.00
Cleaning Supplies ( puppies can be messy) $25.00
Grooming $65.00
Walker $0.00 ( DH works from home).
Meds ( Heartworm and ticks) $35.00

I am not counting treats, toys etc. We are fortunate that we can afford the expense, she is worth every penny and more. I love her so much and I was not a dog person.

The emotional benefits to our family can’t be quantified.

How are you selecting the breeds?

The breeds you mention require very specific things (and very different from each other). Those are huge commitments for mental stimulation for the dogs, exercise, training.

The financial commitment is for real, but it's the least of it. Before you even worry about the money, think about whether you can handle the rest.

Not true. We have a fenced in yard and dog door.

Dogs sleep 16 hours a day. And that is what mine do all day while we are at work. They get a walk when we get home.

A dog that size, I’d estimate at least $100/month for food.
$40/month for meds
$15/walk if you need a dog walker
$50-$100/night for boarding when you go away
$500/year for vet bills
$1000 for training

You would medicate a healthy young dog on monthly basis???
Why so much for a vet bill? And why so often other then vaccs,?

I though vote for the Eski, as smaller dog, as jsmart as German Sh. Fraction the costs.

This is an animal abuse, The dog will have all kinds of health problems.
You try to hold your poo and pee all this time and try it for a month.
Let us know.

Eski is a small dog. Dog of that size
Will eat about cup a day, at most.
So if you get Royal canin this cost about 50 a month.
Vaccination at petco clinic cost close to nothing.
Doc visits for a young dog when you get him and as needed
As young dog should not have health issues and when does you will know.
Older dogs at 10 might need more.
If you cook meat and barley ...veggies ..etc he will be healthy and
Happy. Dogs all history ate human food, just fake food is not healthy.

toys now and then as you wis price vary.

Don.t buy one dog if you are out a lot.
Buy two so they will be happy and not depressed.
At the minimum, add a kitten, get them together so they will be pals.

NP here.

The poster says that they have a fenced in yard and dog door, which to me means that the dog can exit and enter the house at its own leisure during the day to poop in the fenced in back yard. But yet you claim this is animal abuse. How is this animal abused?

A thousand dollars a year for basic food, vet bills, anti flea and tick and monthly heartworm treatments. That's basic, can't be avoided money.

Twice a year shots and vet checks, probably another 500

When the puppy gets sick and needs to go to the vet, has an accident, etc. 1500 to 5000

You might avoid some of this by adopting an adult dog. But the 1000 per year is unavoidable.

We have a boxer and our monthly bills are:

Food $100
Insurance: $115 (highly recommend as it has already saved us thousands on vet visits and accidents)
Daycare: $250 (optional but needs his exercise)
Allergy meds: $100

OP: if your dog requires medicine that’s extra. We have had 3 dogs and love them all, but when they get older THEY ALL HAVE MEDICAL ISSUES regardless of the breed. If you vacation or go out of town, you will need to board or hire help which is about $60 a day. It really adds up not to mention. The time and attention they require. It’s like having another child, just much cheaper.
