^ Wait...so you DIDN'T want to smell bacon in your house? This concept is foreign to me. |
Yeah - our house came with them. I am not a fan. There's so much crud and gunk. I would prefer a standalone can that I can easily clean around. |
There’s really no reason to have super powered burners. It’s just a scam on rich people. |
We just had an outside vent installed and love it. It was needed. Some foods smoke up the house a lot and we were having to open a window or a door to vent the house. Haven't had any issues with the heat being pulled out of the house. |
We adore our induction stove. It cooks so much faster! We used consumer reports to find our favorite appliances. We got a Bosch dishwasher that doesn't match, but we were more concerned about the function than the look.
I love having a small TV over the sink for dishes. I keep our kitchen so much cleaner, now that I can watch trashy TV while DH does the bedtime routine. (I turn it off quickly if I hear kids coming downstairs.) I also hate our open shelving, because we can never keep it cute an styled. I passionately hate french door fridges. I want to open my fridge with one hand. Every time we rent a beach house with one, I am reminded why they aren't for me. |
Depends on how you cook. If you want restaurant wok flavor (i.e. wok-hay), you do need the ability to blast the heat. But for cooking eggs or sauces, it doesn't make any difference. |
Appliance garage
Open island/peninsula—all counter space Stainless countertop with integrated wide, deep stainless sink—so easy to keep clean, great for cooking Spice drawer (avoids issue PP mentioned of having to bend down to see the spices) Lots of natural light Undercabinet lighting |
I love our large kitchen peninsula, pull out spice rack, and extra built in cabinet/shelf for our tea/coffee bar. We also opted for mostly pull out drawers instead of traditional two door cabinets on our bottom cabinets. It's much easier to see everything. |
Agree about the french door fridges. We just got rid of ours and went back to a side by side. |
Pantry shelves with pull outs. Pantry unit I guess you would call it. Keeps the kitchen so much neater. |
One more thing: soft floors. We have cork now but used to have linoleum. Both are great for back/knees/hips. |
Love...
1. large island 2. under cabinet lighting 3. cabinets with pull out drawers 4. vacpan Meh.. 1. pot filler - I don't use it nearly as often as I thought I would |
Okay well I guess it’s true that Chevy Chase is a mecca for wok-hay. |
Agree totally with the no burners/clear island. This is probably the one and only thing I absolutely could not deal with. |
I don’t want to smell bacon today when I cooked it yesterday Yes, sending food smells out of the house takes some heat or air conditioning with it. So does opening the door |
