SBX 16, is there no middle ground for gun control?

For example, all gun owners need to be part of a militia. Said militia needs to have regular drills and to police their own. Militias with too many problem owners get shut down.

In exchange we can get holdout states like Maryland and Illinois to recognize other states legitimate CCW permits or at least to allow storage in lock boxes while going through those states.

I suggest that you do a bit of reading before you make a fool of yourself again. The Firearm Owners Protection Act of 1986 already permits travelers to transit through ALL states with an unloaded firearm secured in either the trunk of the car (or in a locked container if there is no trunk).

“You’d think they’d focus on popular things like increasing the minimum wage, wiping away the car tax, allowing greater exceptions to the Dillon Rule, or even some sort of red flag law or one of the milder gun control measures at the one hour session.“

Frankly I do not care what else the new Dem majority does if they do not get major changes passed on gun control. Most stuff is working fine in VA; gun rules are a huge area of needed improvement.

And yet gun violence is very low in VA.

But sure, if you want to sacrifice everything else for laws that will be tied up in the courts, ignored, unenforceable, and ineffective at preventing gun violence, go ahead.

+1. I want gun nutters in jail. Period. That is literally the ONLY thing I care about for this session. If they can't accomplish that, they are worthless, and should be replaced by Delegates and Senators who can. Any Dem who falls out of line on these Bills that have been introduced needs to be recalled and replaced immediately. There has been too much work, too much money spent, and too many promises made to NOT use this opportunity to push for the strongest gun safety laws this country has ever seen. My message to all those new Delegates and Senators is very simple: we got you in there - now it's time for you to hold up your end of the bargain and get rid of these guns, and their idiot owners.

Well, how can you blame people for thinking that way? Especially when you remember what Pete Shields, the founder of what later became the Brady group, said:
"No private citizen has any legitimate reason to possess any type of firearm whatsoever."

That's a troubling statement. That explicitly implies that _any_ public citizen is a candidate for gun ownership. Shades of proles and party.

That's not what the proposed bill says, though, and there is a good reason for it.

If you plan to form your arguments about actual proposed legislation based on extreme things once said by someone who died a quarter century ago and who is not a legislator, and that obviously has no bearing on what is actually in a proposed bill, then please don't pretend that you are trying to discuss an actual proposed bill. You are simply fear mongering to distract from the bill and not furthering that discussion.

And the PPs point is that if you didn't read the bill, you shouldn't comment on what the bill does or doesn't do, especially if you are making outrageous things up that aren't in the bill (e.g., "all VA gun owners will become felons overnight"). PP is insulting the intelligence of anyone who opens the thread by posting such nonsense.

Such violent impulses. I hope you don't own firearms. Have you considered therapy?

Based only on this thread there seems to be a very strong correlation between posters' own internal rage and violent impulses and those same individuals' desire to prevent others from owning firearms.

What is your obsession with violence?

A quick web search on "betsy riot" turned up this:

betsyriot dot com

Not a person, but rather a group.Seems to be based in Nebraska or maybe Idaho. I guess either they have a Virginia chapter, or membership here in the DC area.

Based on a quick skim of their website and their idiotic posturing-threats-made-from-the-safety-and-anonymity-of-a-keyboard rhetoric, probably at least 1/3 of DCUM would be welcomed as members, lolz.
