I stopped reading the thread early, so pardon if this was raised. Your DC was overhearing a private conversation and has no idea what criteria these two kids were ranking the”DC area” on. Tell your kid to mind their own business and don’t model jumping to conclusions.
Maybe: I want to be where I can surf all year, I want to be where I can snowboard all year, I need to be in a lower cost of living area.
