Dang but not surprising. I’m glad these kids fought to save their school and I hope it is communicated to them that DCPS and the administration do a lot of things that people strongly disagree with. And I dont believe the part where it says DCPS doesn’t know what its plan is for the building. As always there is more to the story...

The Washington Met building is an elementary school building.
Former KC Lewis Elementary. It has room for ~350 students.

BS. They know exactly what they are doing. Swinging SWS there for the next two years. They don't give a dime about the students at either of these schools, all they care about is saving money.

BS. They know exactly what they are doing. Swinging SWS there for the next two years. They don't give a dime about the students at either of these schools, all they care about is saving money.

To me it sounds like they want to surplus/sell it, but not say it out loud yet because of law requiring them to make available to charters.

This location is pretty close to Banneker ( soon to be vacant and designated for Shaw Middle) and the new Whole Foods opening soon... There is a lot at play here, follow the money...

My guess is swing space for now, then maybe some other use within DCPS after a renovation. I don't see them giving up a site in a desirable central location. They may need it in the 10-year time frame as schools to the north and west continue to fill up.

This sounds like it would make sense. There is a lot of housing in the pipeline around Georgia Ave.

Also in Eckington/Edgewood and the McMillan Development if it ever happens. In the long run they may have to carve out another elementary school to relieve overcrowding. And yes, there is the question of Shaw Middle-- good location for it and hopefully big enough, I'm not sure if the courts and field along W St. NW belong to the same site...

In the short term, there are some upcoming modernizations in the area. Some of these may be too far away or have other plans already announced, I don't really track it. There is $27 million in the budget for renovation of a centralized swing space but I don't know what it is, and some of the money is partially spent so maybe this is for multiple sites?

Schools in the area that are high on the modernization list. In two-year turns, these could keep the site occupied for quite a while.
