Yes. MS has PE every day. But once a week for ES. Seems backwards! Tough I guess the MSers need to run around and blow off steam also.

Plus, indoor recess in ES is the pits. Not enough staff so they combine two classes of kids into one crammed room with one recess aide. Often the kids watch a video or play on Chromebooks. Teachers, students and staff hate when it rains and they are stuck with indoor recess.

Note that middle schools have no recess time but PE every day except the quarter they have health class; while elementary schools have PE once a week but recess every day.

I'm the PP. That's true. I should have been more clear.

Sometimes our MS even lets the kids go out and run around in the parking lot after lunch if they can. The kids definitely need some time for that. AND, they try to get OUTSIDE most days for PE in MS. Which I love!

We didn't have enough staff at our ES to take the kids outside for PE, and it's too chaotic. Our ES combines two classrooms into one PE class.

Also, please explain how "having PE more than 1x a week" would reduce the achievement gap?

MCPS will listen IF you have the answer.

LOL

Ain't that the truth.

MCPS cares about one thing and one thing only. Closing the achievement gap.

If someone can present a study to the BOE about how additional recess time leads to an increase in scores for AA and Latino students, then maybe they'd get on board.
