iready percentiles

My 3rd grader is in AAP and last year she scored below average on her reading iReady. I knew it was crap since she could read just fine, and so did her teacher. Do not take any stock in those scores. I know the teachers definitely don't.

Yikes I looked at scores and they were higher than what’s expected for the beginning of school year but no idea about %. It was on a letter I skimmed...

One of my DC score above what’s expected for fall but still a very low percentile. Doesn’t make sense.

My 3th grader scored in the 99% and my 5th grader scored in the 97%

We found this online. DS in 3rd was 97th percentile for Reading and 99th plus for math. His initial scores were already in the end of year range.

I asked the teacher for them.

Not-even-applying for AAP 2nd grader was 96% Reading, 76% Math. This seems pretty on the nose.

AAP 4th grader was 80% Reading, way above 99% Math.
True abilities are probably somewhat higher for reading and lower for math. Math is the subject for which we've been focusing his supplementation, and the supplementation we're doing is geared towards near grade-level work, which makes the score appear higher than it ought to be on this type of test. Not sure what the deal is with the reading score. Maybe he spaced out on the comprehension? He's not naturally as strong there, but I don't think he's that weak.

My kids scored way below what I would have expected for reading. It’s a tad discouraging.

They were mailed to us a couple weeks before the report card.

When you go onto the site in the completed work, it will show you scores for diagnostic and other assignments.☺️

So, how did your AAP kids or 2nd graders who are applying this year do in iready?

One kid scored 97th percentile in reading and way over the 99th percentile mark in math, which fits completely with my expectations. My older child scored only 85th percentile in reading and 97th in math. I'm shocked by the reading score, since this kid has has had perfect scores on the reading SOL each year and is a strong reader. Now I'm wondering what the score distribution looks like for AAP kids.

OP, if you have a concern about how your child did on the test relative to what you think he/she is capable of, then ask the teacher about it. But what is the point of coming on here and asking other parents how their kids did? Are you looking for validation that your children are smart? Why is that so important for you?

It's just a damn test.

My kid was well below grade level for reading and still qualified for AAP. (Dyslexia) Reading is not highly correlated to intelligence.

You're right. Both tests are essentially meaningless.

No they're definitely not meaningless.

I thought it interesting that my kid’s level iv packet completed by the school referenced their iready percentiles in the comments portion of the GBRS. I’m glad they highlighted it as it was high but wasn’t expecting it at all since it seemed like it didn’t really matter to this process.
