are you serious? the games were packed there this year for DCU and for Spirit. I didnt go to MD to go see Spirit but I did go to Audi. If you think people are not goiing to Audi you need to show up at a game. You are flat out wrong

With the excitement of the World Cup championship and the upcoming Olympics, I suspect they might fill a lot of seats. But in 2-3 years when some excitement dies, it would be interesting if they are able to fill the seats at AUDI Field.

Yeah, there is always a post WC bump. The real question is sustainability.

And let's face it. Spirit games aren't the same calibre as WC games.

They also set the all time single game revenue record for the NWSL... so even if they were giving away free tickets, it didn't hurt them.

Meh, records are more meaningful over time. This is still WC leftovers.

+1. Especially when people and their kids want to watch Rose Lavelle play after her performance in the WC.

While I am hoping that the NWSL does well, I’m skeptical if it will endure. Sam Kerr just left but I hope they are able to recruit more women superstars to the NWSL.

Once they dumped their youth program in such a disgusting fashion, I couldn't bring myself to go any more. And now they are just a memory of time and money I wasted. Instead, I'm watching on TV to catch what I can of women's pro soccer. I wonder we will start to have more access to the European teams. That I'd be interested in paying for.

What a stupid post.

Maybe continued news like this makes PP shun the Spirit for international women’s soccer:

You’re not the dude who thinks Spirit moved to Loudoun for FCV and thinks DC is a “hotbed” for soccer talent, are you?

No NWSL team can compete with the finances of Chelsea

It wouldn't matter if it did. This isn't a money problem. Spirit doesn't have the level of coaches or managers that Chelsea does. Neither Best nor Burke could possibly get a job at Chelsea.

are you suggesting sam kerr went to chelsea for coaching?

it is a money problem: https://the18.com/soccer-news/sam-kerr-chelsea-contract-numbers

the Spirit wasnt trying to sign Sam Kerr to replace Mallory or Rose

simple math: Chelsea has no salary cap and paying her $410,000 year which exceeds the 2019 NWSL max TEAM payroll of $421,500 for 22 player roster

And Chelsea women and men are part of same organization so money is not equivalent between a Premier league club and NWSL club

Sam Kerr should be able to play where she wants and get paid, so good for her

the next question is how many American players will depart NWSL and how will that affect NWSL

Spirit is a second rate organization with second rate coaching. Anyone suggesting otherwise has no idea what a professional club truly looks like. The only reason WNT stay is. uSSF requires them to.

He was suggesting that Ritchie and Larry cannot get it done. And I agree with him.

+1. Never. Regardless of the budget. Regardless of the calibre of players. They simply aren't capable.

What does “get it done” mean exactly?

DP. Do you really think they'd be coaching for Spirit if Chelsea wanted them? When you understand that, you'll understand the rest of it.
