Why are some people upset that tall kids have a higher reach? That’s just life. Don’t blame coaches for picking a tall kid to cover an 8x24 foot goal.

I think the overall point was to show where the delineated heights were. Saying the average is 6'2" doesn't provide enough context. But, it is safe to say that 6' is the safest floor walk through the door height to be a keeper at the collegiate level.

For sure. These posts prove what I said about coach bias, especially at the D1 level. Now, D3 will be more open to a shorter keeper. Not that D1 is everything. People try so hard for that but it's all relative. Does your kid like the school? The coach? The team itself? Will he or she see time or just be a practice player?

Look, if you are 5'7" it ain't gonna happen, not because of bias but because of real demands of the position. 5'10" is also going to be rare.

If your kid is not likely to be tall do not fall into the trap of believing your kid will be different. The numbers are what they are. Do not push kids into playing keeper until they have really hit their growth spurt. Make sure they never give up time playing in the field and never give up working on the technical aspects of field play. Keeping can be specialized later but you can't go from keeper to playing center mid.

So, you have the numbers. If you are under 6' and want to be a keeper in college think long and hard about it.

Even 6’0 is tough to make the D1 cut. You are in the 33rd percentile. Two out three GKs are taller. I am sure it drops off fast under 6’0. You better be damn good at 6’0, maybe a sweeper keeper that fits a particular system or shoot for lower end D1 schools.

Is it a bias based in reality? Or a reality produced by bias?

Either way I guess it doesn't matter. The preference for height is real and it happens at every level. Keylor Navas is a better keeper by a mile than Courtois, but Navas is 6'1 vs Courtois 6'6", so there you have it.
