I totally agree, but some believe that it's a bit humane to say that little Johnny wasn't good enough to be at our precious little school. Look at all the discussion here about the supposed harshness of the Sidwell rejection letter. |
So whatever some may consider the Sidwell letter harsh. So what. Get over it. At least they rejected you and don't give you a false (because that's what it would be) sense of hope. Or worse, just blow you off when you try to call and ask about the waitlist.

Yes, the Sidwell letter deal is better. When we got a waitlist letter from Beauvoir several years ago (for PK) we thought it was telling us we were really special and might really get in off the waitlist. It was wayyyyy tooooo nice. We felt like idiots when we realized the truth. I look back at that and, knwoing everything I know now, smile sadly at how naive we were. At least the Sidwell letter makes it perfectly clear either way - waitlist or not. |
PP where is yuur child now and would you recommend the current school> |
We were called from the wait list at Beauvoir. I also know of at least 4 other families who got in off the wait list at both Pre-K and K. It does happen, but like any wait list whether it's "real" or not, you will not know if or when it will happen. |

I haven't seen any hard evidence here that Beauvoir puts more people on the waiting list than any of these other schools. If there wait list doesn't seem "real"... it is probably because very, very few people turn down an acceptance letter from Beauvoir. |
i disagree. i think although beauvoir is an excellent school, i actually know several people that don't consider it their first choice, as they feel it is too conservative for them. many people actually think sidwell, gds, and maret are more exclusive so they accept those over beauvoir, particularly sidwell and maret. |
