Any education majors quit during Fall classroom placements? What happens next?

We have to follow our curriculum exactly. There is no creativity allowed. Baltimore City teacher here. All of us have to follow it exactly. Soon they will replace us with robots. That is the running joke.

Baltimore City teachers do great work despite extreme challenges like this "follow the curriculum exactly" challenge that's undermining effective instruction in other cities around the country, too. Unfortunately, automating instruction is where education is heading. Today's joke is going to be reality eventually.

I can’t get past the fact that she “had” to buy a car. Did she think she would be placed somewhere walking distance?

I'm all for groveling and learning the life lesson. Hopefully she will get certified and spend a few years adjusting to the realities of the work world. But I'm someone who left public for private and never looked back. Night and day. But I'm glad I had a decade of public school experience first. I really appreciate what I have now more.

Have you ever been poor? Like too poor to afford a car so you had to take public transportation to work although your job was already an hour away by car and would be longer than that by bus? I have. There’s a huge difference between “walking distance” and a distance that can be commuted in a reasonable amount of time on public transportation. Three of our student teachers from UMD arrived to our school by bus last year. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to anticipate a placement that is a reasonable commuting distance.
