birthday in school question

My mom did this with me and we did it with my teenaged son but they changed the rules and only allow prepackaged treats to be sent in for the Valentine and Halloween parties. My kid’s first full day of Kindergarten was on her birthday so we didn’t send anything in because we thought it would be overwhelming for the kids and teacher. We’re only allowed to send in pencils, erasers, stickers, etc.
I wish schools were allowed to just make a list of prepackaged food that we were allowed to buy instead like they do for class parties that would accommodate allergies because I’d rather my kids eat a treat than bring home more stuff.

Why do you need to do anything at school?

Our FCPS only allows food treats, with classroom specific guidelines re:allergens. My child’s K teacher said nut-free and not cupcakes. I dropped off nut free cookies at the front office and the teacher passed them out at recess.

There is absolutely no need to go in and help the teacher pass things out. Kindergarten teachers pass things out 20 times a day. They have mastered the skill.

You don’t need to. A lot of people do or did , though. My mother is 65 and her mother brought treats for her class every year in elementary school. The only people I know that didn’t bring things in on their birthday were those with summer birthdays.

Our MCPS has birthday party celebration 4 times a year, for kids with birthday in the 2 months, store bought treat and other snacks from the birthday kids parents
