Poll: Sidwell letters

Anonymous
i just reread my rejection letter and i don't think it was particularly cold. honestly they didn't get to know my son or us, as we never had a meeting and they barely met him i'm sure in his playdate so it would be fake for them to go on an on about how much they liked our son or us b/c they don't know us. maybe the fact that they didn't give us a chance to get to know is is the issue and that is another discussion. however, it was a fine letter and whatever. its not like they said he is a dummy or something. now that would be something else!

PP - why didn't you have a meeting? I thought everyone who applies gets a parent interview.

I'm not the PP, but Sidwell only interviewed parents of K and 3rd grade applicants.

I think that someone should post all the rejection letters from schools to let people vote on which is the coldest!

Sidwell would win in a landslide. They really have no heart.

Can you provide an excerpt?

Sorry, I've already chucked it in the trash.

it was not that bad! goodness! sure i'd love to jump on the sidwell bashing bandwagon b/c we got rejected as well but really it was just your normal letter. "sidwell committee has reviewed all of the applications...we regret we could not offer xxx a place in next year's prek class...." it was fine guys. come on. i think sidwell was so overwhelmed this year by the number of applicants that maybe they didn't handle things as personally as we would have wished but i don't they did anything wrong per se. i would rather get a flat out "no" if that is indeed their intention than keep my hopes up for weeks. as far as this year, my sidwell application is done with - i applied and got rejected. end of story. i'd still go in a heartbeat if we got accepted but honestly i am starting to rethink our choices this year and think we may just stay where we currently are another year. i am not bs - i'm not sure if i am ready to start our parenting "career" at a big three school just yet! maybe my family just needs another year to just regroup! this doesn't mean we didn't get in anywhere by the way....it is just rethinking.

The tripe that gets posted on here AMAZES me (yet I keep looking.) What a deeply silly person you must be.

Regarding:

and regarding Sidwell having "no heart," the letters were straightforward-but-respectful. Would you have preferred to have been patronized and/or made to feel "special"? An analyst may be cheaper...

Totally agree-so depressed applied for aid-rejected pre-k. Letter is very dehumanizing. They really don't seem to care.

This is really getting ridiculous.

You all are really projecting here and taking this waaaaaaaaaaay to personally...

Please grow up, ASAP.

I know this is from last year, but what do the acceptance letters look like? Same business sized envelope but thicker or is it a larger envelope? Don't bother responding with snotty remarks about my question - as I already know it is ridiculous and have just succumb to the fact that I am a bit ridiculous when it comes to this particular subject! Thank you!

Usually longer envelope i.e. flat not folded.

With so many applicants - they are doing parents a favor by keeping it short and sweet. Too much hope would be misleading - chances are they have deemed your child an unlikely fit, and would like to encourage you to look elsewhere. Consider it a blessing in disguise - we've been there - and life goes on.
