this is such a personal decision, with so many unknowns. we chose to test because i will be 39 when I deliver, and while we weren't sure what we would have done, we wanted/needed to know. Having one child with some special needs (although DC is an amazing bright wonderful kid) was one consideration--would DC #1 get the attention needed and deserved if #2 was a truly disabled child, etc? We were relieved to find out that all ok (according to tests). I have another friend, same age, who didn't test after NT because they had so much trouble getting pregnant that their risk of miscarriage was greater than the risk of something wrong according to their NT results. But I also have a colleague who didn't test and whose baby died a day after birth--it was heartbreaking. They may have gone through with it anyway, but i know that DH and I wouldn't have, if we had been given info that life was not viable.
