I was being sarcastic in response to the PP who thinks parents were more upset about “random” days off than losing a full SB. |
| Ocean city Maryland would lose a huge amount of revenue if it started before Labor Day. |
We're still waiting to see the data on that. |
You don't need insider info. You just need to know the pattern of the usual school calendar and the state mandated holidays and then look at the actual calendar to figure out the basics of what will happen. Labor day is late and we have election day and inauguration day to be off. The only way to fit 1st semester in reasonably is to start Aug 31. That should put end of 1st qtr at 11/4 (Wed ) and with MLK on 1/18, I'd bet that 1/19 would be the professional day between semesters, 1/20 off, and 2nd semester starts 1/21. (At least, I hope that's what they do, because otherwise that 3rd week of January becomes just a total mess for getting anything done.)
FWIW - one of the things that I think works well in states with an early or mid-August start is that they end their 1st semester before winter break. I think that flows much better for students and is just more in line with the college patterns (and associated camps/programs staffed by college students). |
Give it up, Larry. |
I would prefer if decisions regarding education were made without regards to ocean city. Unless that revenue from OC gets funneled back into the school systems, it should have no bearing on start dates. |
