Stare int a a mirror and practice. A lot. And if you can't get the eye situation straight, just be sure to always 3/4 turn to the camera so it just looks like a camera angle issue. Take photos of yourself in the mirror to see which your best side is and try to always turn your head that way just a little for photos.

This is what you need to do. I think some people refuse to do it because they think it's petty/beneath them to care so much, but then they take crappy pictures. If you whipped out a camera in front of me right now, I would instinctually pose for it without thinking--it's like a running joke in my family--but I take a damn good photo.
