(Granted I’m also pregnant with a boy and LOVE Ben but don’t particularly like Benjamin or Bennett and am torn as to whether to move on or not because I do really like the idea of a full name and a nickname—so I do get your dilemma.)

Do people still do this? If someone tells me their name is Chris, I call them Chris. Unless it's a really unusual name, why would there even be a discussion about it? Anyway as a PP said, it's really easy to say "No, just Chris."

Chris is fine, just use Chris.

Or Ludacris.

I have both a girl and a boy that 100% go by their nicknames. Absolutely everyone reads my sons name and immediately uses a nickname. Alexander? It’s Alex right? Somehow even the doctors office changed his file. People just like to use nicknames for boys. I’ve never once corrected anyone. Pretty sure Chris would be like that too

My daughter has to fight to get her nickname used.

I think Chris is a nice name in and of itself.

However, your son might appreciate having the more formal name of Christopher to use as a backup.

How about Kris (as in Kristofferson, not Kringle)

Dp. Funny as my dd always had to fight for people to use her whole name...they just start calling her maddie wven though she introduces herself as madeleine.

Spell it Kris. More unique and less likely people will assume it's a nickname. Be prepared for "Kris Kringle" jokes though.
