What are you and your child trying to get out of lacrosse? Are you hoping for a college scholarship, or just want him to learn the game, and have fun and play on a team during high school? If you are hoping for a scholarship, unless your kid is an amazing athlete, who is uniquely dedicated to the sport, it's likely too late for that. So don't listen to these people talk about private lessons and all manner of expensive nonsense. What you can do is find local clinics, watch youtube videos and drills on USA Lacrosse's website, and play lots of wall ball. TONS of wall ball, and practice stick tricks. Not for the sake of the silly tricks, but because it'll increase familiarity with the stick in various positions. Basketball defensive footwork drills translate almost 100% to lacrosse man to man defense. So you can also look into having him play basketball in the offseason. |
