Expectant and Postpartum Moms
I flew with my 2.5 mo old. Any earlier and I would have been worried about the spread of germs, especially these days with ll the nasty viruses this year.
I am just envious of all these moms who felt fine 2wks after a csection. Here I am 5 weeks post csection and it still hurts-- a lot. I cant imagine going to the store without pain, let alone on a long plane ride. Am i the only one having such a rough csection recovery?
PP, I assume you have your 6 wk check up coming up? Make sure you tell your dr that it still hurts a good deal. I felt fine within a week of both my c-sections but I'm sure everyone recovers differently.
Yes. My 6 week pp checkup is next week. I definitely plan to mention it. How soon did you feel fine?
I am the poster who flew at 3 weeks post C/S. First C/S was emergent after being in labor for 8 hours and pushing for 2 and it took me 2 weeks to get back to normal. 2nd C/S I felt great at 1 1/2 weeks but it was planned. I also stopped taking narcotics within 3 days both times. Narcotics wipe my body out so after 3 days I just alternated tylenol and motrin both times. Hydration is also really important. If you are still in a lot of pain I would say its not normal and to talk to your doctor.
I flew with DD 2.5 weeks after a vaginal birth. It was fine. I wore her the whole time and she slept on the plane. It was a 2.5 hr flight to FL. The ped said it was fine.
We flew home from an adoption at 2.5 weeks. Since I didn't give birth, I had none of the physical issues. It was summer, however. If it had been winter, with a flu season like this one, we may have considered a long (miserable) car ride.
we flew when he was 8 weeks last winter and it was great. my pediatrician supported it because he had a few early shots before boarding the plane. If you do take the baby, i'd recommend an ergo carrier where they face in and having a blanket up around them as well. very good handwashing and nursing if possible.
